Hey guys,
I got some updated info on the differences from SD to the LA region and have edited the post above accordingly.
Also, though I would share the LA region's tips for getting started here:

Also the SCCA CAM rules are here:

The CAM rules are pretty broad and forgiving when it comes to car mods which is perfect for the pro touring crowd. Nearly anything goes with respect to performance mods as long as you have 200tw tires and keep the spirit of a street car. If you have questions then read the 2 page rules I linked above.
There are three CAM sub-classes but depending on turnout cars may all be lumped into a single CAM class.
CAMT - Traditional. Body styles
originating from 1954 - 1972 with minimum weight of 3,000 lbs and minimum wheelbase of 108"
CAMS - Sport. Minimum wheelbase of 90" and weight of 2,350 lbs or 2,500 lbs if lexan windshield. This class is basically for Cobra's vettes and other short wheelbase or super lightweight cars.
CAMC - Contemporary. Body styles
originating from 1978 on with minimum weight of 3,000 lbs and minimum wheelbase of 100"
