Took my newest rifle out to the range the other day. 100 yard zero off a bipod with no rear bag. It can still get better. Should be taking it to Sac Valley Gun Range in a couple weeks to take it out to 1000.
Mega Arms MATEN Extended forearm matched receiver set, (no longer available as Mega sold to Zev Tech).
24" Fulton Criterion 1:8 Bull Match barrel.
Fulton NiB BCG. (bolt headspaced to barrel extension)
SLR Rifle Works adjustable gas block (.936)
Geissele SSA-E trigger
MAGPUL PRS rear stock
Harris bipod with podlock
Athlon ARES BTR scope on a ADM 20moa mount.
The group pictured was with Hornady 140ELD factory match ammo. Tried using some Prime 130's but the grouping wasn't near as tight. Might try some 143 or 147's just for giggles.
Got out to Sac Valley range. They were having a match on the 1000 yard range but we spent some time at the 500 meter steel silhouette range. While waiting for some friends to show up i tried using a couple different rounds in the rifle.
Hornady 140gr ELD Match
Hornady 129gr SST Superformance
Prime 130gr Match
American Eagle 120gr Open Tip Match
Needless to say the rifle really liked the 129gr Superformance. Tighter than my best group of the 140gr ELD by almost a 1/2moa @100yrd.
I will only say - the lighter bullet may "appear" more accurate..... at closer ranges. I'll take the 147gr ELD Match where I shoot -- and at the distances I shoot almost daily... which is STARTING at 500 yards then going long.
The heavier bullet has less wind drift.... and in the mountains -- the winds are tough!
Nice grouping!!
I zero at 200 - - and find that I should be shooting HIGH at 100 due to bullet rise....
