I have Forgeline wheels and C5 hubs, the problem is when I put the wheel and tire on it is so tight on the hub I have to use a hammer and a 4x4 and hit the rim on the backside to remove it. Has anyone else had issues with these wheels and C6 hubs?
Are you hubs rusty at all even surface rust? If so try wire brushing them. Are the wheels hard to install as well? Sometimes production tolerances and even the slightest variance can cause a tight fit. If anti seize or wire brushing doesn't solve this issue you can always have the hub bore machined. It costs about 25 to 50 dollars per wheel. And they have to remove the Tire to do it.
When you purchased the wheels, did you tell Forgeline they would be used with the C5/C6 hubs?
Can you take a dial caliper and measure the diameter of the tab which sticks out in the center of the hub? The Corvettes have a hub-centric wheel as I recall, meaning the wheel is centered on that tab/lip of the hub.
On mine, the hat of the brake rotor is as thick as that tab, and thus I have no issues. But from memory, I think that Forgeline opens the center of the wheel up a bit more for the Corvette hubs, but it's been a long time since I asked them...
My rears fit great until I changed my rear brakes
The wheel then went farther on the hub and would hang up slightly
I just took a die grinder and slightly opened up the taper and
all is good now...
It is just the front, and the hubs are new from Chevrolet and the wheels were ordered with C6 hub specs. I talked to Forgeline and they gave me the measurements and the hubs are the same as the wheels. They go on easy but they are a bitch to get off and before I put the front end on the car I would like to fix this issue. I thought maybe someone on Lat G had possibly had the same issue.
It's not uncommon on a factory car to need to kick the tire to unseat a wheel. Some emory cloth on the wheel may do the trick. A snug fit is good as long as the wheel comes off without excessive force.
so if its a steel hub to an aluminum wheel.....that's a galvanic reaction , try a lil bit of antiseize the surface of the hub face ...or the rotor hub face when you have the rotors on .It may not stop it, but will certainly help
