Thumbs up Going topless

the car that is , now that the cowl is structurally sound it's' time to get that roof off and see what needs attention.

So... off came the roof, the front header had the most rust (POR15 TIME) and the rest is looking like it will make it fine with some epoxy primer. I was worried about the area under the pinch weld for the drip rail and it looks like I can save it . Couple hours and the DeWalt and she's looking mo better.

Critters made a house in here!

Break out the Blair spot weld cutter!

The front header had the most rust!

Got the lead outa this side.

Cleaned up pretty good

I still have to get that drip rail part of the roof off ... that will take some delicate grinding, that's all for tonight.

Thanks for looking ....

Nice job you'd never know it was rusted.

That is exactly right .... but knowing the history of the car and seeing the rust everywhere else I knew the roof had to come off the car.

Gotta do it right .... steady the course

Thumbs up Garage time!

It's snowing outside and cold but I figured I'd better get something done cuz spring break is over and it's back to school Monday. I got the roof separated from the driver's quarter and then I drilled out the spot welds across the back glass area ... it wasn't as bad as the front

Got this all ready for epoxy!

I'm tried of drilling out spot welds .... just surface rust.

Cleaned up nice .... wish I could spray epoxy this weekend.

I will work on the other side this weekend and get all ready for some epoxy when the weather permits ...

Thanks for looking .... it's late, more tomorrow!

It kicked my butt last night .... but I told myself I was gonna finish this part tonight. So I fired up the heater and kept at it til it was done - it was 2300 when I got inside

Looks like there is 5 inches of snow outside now and it's still snowing .... oh well. I'll be in the garage here in a short.

Chief, are you still using primarily the red or tan scothbrite type roloc discs to remove surface rust?

What sort of RPM are you using in order to not smoke through the discs like no tomorrow?

Great work ethic!

Robert

I am using the fiber discs on my DeWalt to get all the surface rust down to metal, definitely lasts longer than the rolocs.

Just came in for dinner ... the passenger side drip rail/ roof piece is off, what a PITA!
I will post pictures later ... need to get some heat going (8 inches of snow and maybe 28F outside, maybe 50 inside the garage) and get the drivers side done, set goals and stick to them
