Default LS1 vs LS2

Hello,
I came across this site while looking at turbo videos, and thought you might be able to help.
My 2 uncles always end up arguing over what motors are better (ford,dodge,chevy...you know the game) and they start spitting out stats about them. My question is what the difference between the two? I alos read on the the other posts that recomended a different block other than the GM block because he was going over 600 hp, is there a problem with the aluminum block when going over 600 hp? I dont know a whole lot about motors, just the basics. Hope you can help.

Thanks

The Ls1/6 block is very close to the Ls2. A Ls2 is a 4" bore and the Ls1/6 are 3.9" and the strokes are the same between the motors. The Ls6 and Ls2 both use 243 casting heads.

Other than being .3 liter larger the LS2 relocated the cam/crank sensors to the front and there are other small changes to allow the displacement on demand (just like the new hemi) system.

The knock sensors also moved from the lifter valley in a LS1 to the side of the block in the ls2. But for the most part the architecure is unchanged. A Ls2 402 is going to be a heckuva bang for the $$$.

both motrs can with stand well over 600hp if built correctly.

My LS1 heads and cam motor put 475 hp to the rear wheels..
we were about to install a small shot (200 shot) to see if we could push the car into the 9's with a 6 speed.

Both motors are very duraible and with stand some serious abuse.
