Default GM ignition help

I have a 57 Ford with a 70's GM tilt column. The key to the column doesn't exist and it's never been an issue because the ignition for the ford is on the dash...welp, now its an issue. The ignition switch got turned all the way to the off position and has locked the steering. I have the wheel off, turn signal cam out of the way and can see how it all works...the lock cylinder rotates a pin that engages with a cogged wheel on the column. I'm not sure how to get the pin out and I believe I need the cogged wheel for it all to go back together. I guess I'm looking for the best next step. Ideally I'd like to find away to make the column safe without the locking mechanism.

I can get a new cylinder with a key and I imagine throughout the 70's they were all interchangeable, is that correct?

They make tools to remove the pin. Also you can make your own tool with an 8-32" bolt, nut, and washers like this guy did in the video below. Video is bad, but gives you the idea.

Thanks for that Jody, while it’s not the pin I need to deal with it does show me more of the inner workings of the column. Without watching the entire video, the pin I’m looking to deal with you can see in the first few seconds. It’s the 3-4” solid rod sticking out where the wheel mounts, about 11:00 on the column. From the video it appears if I take more of the column apart I may have a bolt or clip I can remove to get the pin out.

I’ll keep at it, thank you.

Remove the lock ring and trim it so the pin can not engage at all and then reassemble.

Remove lock ring and remove interlock pin, reassemble without pin, throw pin as far as you can.

Remove the lock ring, throw it as far as you can and replace with a small washer and reassemble.

Remove column and throw it as far as you can and replace with IDIDIT because who has two ignition cylinders in their car.

That’s some funny **** Donny, and so true. I’m trying to accomplish #2 so I can drive and shake out the suspension this summer. #4 is what needs to happen and will at some point.
