Default GM ignition help

I have a 57 Ford with a 70's GM tilt column. The key to the column doesn't exist and it's never been an issue because the ignition for the ford is on the dash...welp, now its an issue. The ignition switch got turned all the way to the off position and has locked the steering. I have the wheel off, turn signal cam out of the way and can see how it all works...the lock cylinder rotates a pin that engages with a cogged wheel on the column. I'm not sure how to get the pin out and I believe I need the cogged wheel for it all to go back together. I guess I'm looking for the best next step. Ideally I'd like to find away to make the column safe without the locking mechanism.

I can get a new cylinder with a key and I imagine throughout the 70's they were all interchangeable, is that correct?
