Default camaro Rocker wire guards

I have the original rocker panel wire guides but they are kinda bulky and I don't really understand the necessity. For GM and specifically Camaro users do you use these or shelf them.
Do they make the carpet fit better?

They definitely make the carpet fit better by providing a gentle radius from sill to floor. They also protect any wires from being chafed every time you get in and out.
