Default LT5...here we go again!

So GM has recently patented the 18' corvette engine, and it's got dual overhead camshaft's. They've coded it "LT5", just as they did in the mid 90's with the ZR1.
I've heard rumors of a mid engine car, due to this engines size...what do you guys know about this?

A few years ago when I was talking with an engineer at GM that he said they were working on a bi-turbo DOHC engine to go toe to toe with AMG for the Cadillac's. He said he didn't know if it was based off the currant 3.6L V6 or a modified LS base though. I'm kinda wondering if the LT5 is the higher output version of that engine he was talking about.

Interesting point, considering the past relationship.

Perhaps DOHC in a small block package - if anyone can do it GM can - If it does go into a mid engine vet lets hope LS reliability and ease of service

will be interesting to see what gm comes up with, if its a variation of this or their own deal, I'll bet it will have direct injection though.

Being as how the LT5 from the 90's was GM/Lotus designed, and built by Mercury, I'd have to believe that the link you've posted shows at least a form of what's to come. GM announced that there would never be another 427 in a Vette, due to federally mandated fuel mileage requirements, so this will end up being a 6.2 liter engine. I'd definitely say it's gonna have DI.

All I know is if GM does release a mid-engine Vette, I'm robbing a bank.

This engine/transaxle in a Cayman would be pretty amazing!

Was told today that the new engine will not be Mercury Marine 4 valve LS engine . But GM was looking at it.
