I had to make the same choice and chose the LS7.

I swapped in a Katech Torquer cam and am using ATS's headers. Katech says that they dyno'd this combo and got 595hp, 575 tq. I haven't got the car on a chassis dyno yet but hope to soon. I will post the results when I do.

BTW, its a blast to drive!!

what did you do for dry sup pan, tank and plumbing?

ATS oil pan, Peterson 6qt. oil tank (coulda,shoulda got the 8 qt tank), CV Products remote oil filter. System holds 9 qts.

Earls lines and Black AnoTuff fittings

Normally asperated LS7 with a UMI/MSD MEFI4, a simple cam change... and the right headers = 625+ hp

yea.. i plan on seeing the track VERY often.. i went to the track last weekend in Talladega with a Porsche and G35 club and had a great time.

its IMPERATIVE to see alot of track time.. at least after that experience.

not saying its going to be a track car.. but itll see enough of it.

Definitely a LS7 if budget permits. You can throw a cam in there down the line and then no built LS2 will be able to touch it. The LS2 does seem like a bargain though since it can be had for $6000 with transmission, PCM and harness. A LS7 setup is easily triple that price, but then it will be brand new.
