think that is a good start...... opinion please
I dont think you will be able to fit a 275 on the front, depending on how low the car is. I have a 255 and it rubs. Let me know if you get them to fit.
What kind of diesel?
Jeff

all copied form his postings

I think somebody was asking about 285/40s awhile back.
I am playing around with my corvette wheels and came up with this.
Frame clearance on the inside at the closest point is 1/4"
Offset on the wheels with the 2" spacers is 1/4" negative.
So basically the wheels are 17x9.5 with 1/4" negative offset.
Also, I have aluminum drums.

275/40/17 on 9.5" rim

285/40/17 on a 9.5" rim

"is there clearnce to lower it a couple inches"
his response
Yes, It will come down.
No problem on the rear.
No problem on the front either but at the expence of hitting the upper control arms when the wheels are turned sharp.
I have the front wheels set in alot further than the backs.
The wheels are the same but I used 1.25" spacers on the front and 2" on the back.
No way to put a 9.5" wheel on the front without having some type of problem. I chose to loose turning radius on order to keep them from hitting the outer fender.

that help?

Thumbs up

I have a SC&C weld in watts link on the way. I'll post pics once I get it in, it should be a pretty trick piece

I've got a '87 turbo Regal this is going in.

P.S.
Talk to Mark @ SC&C when you get a chance. Super smart guy when it comes to making g-bodies handle like go-carts

here is another
malbiu with a BBC

The front wheels are 17x8 with 4.5 bksp with a 255x40x17. The rears are 17x9 with 5" bksp with a 275x40x17.

question about rubbing his answer
I thought the weight of the big block would make the front end to mushey and then rub on the front inner fender. But none.

I definitely want to see pics of that thing when you get it! I will be starting a 3 link setup on my GN very soon, but Im not sure if their kit will work for me or if Im going to have to custom build one...

i dont know.... but how many current midsize production cars can U-turn inside 40' or ~2.5 lanes of traffic? even a 3rd gen camaro or vettes dont turn this tight.. im talking about almost as tight as civic, cavalier, focus tight..

i know my friends saturn vue takes more space to turn around than my wagon and she has a shorter wheel base

unless you are hitting full lock all the time i dont see it being a problem in 90% of normal street duties

JMHO i wouldnt mind giving up a couple Degrees in steering to acomodate the rims.. might be abel to get some of it back with 9" rim vs a 9.5 since that can still take a 275 tire properly. i have seen pic of a 275 on a 8.5" rim as well.
