Default Links to LQ4 budget build

Guys- I'm looking for links of Lq4 builds. Budget freindly, carb'ed type builds. I found several magazine articles where they pulled a little less than 500hp for less than four grand with used motors. Is there better builds in the same price range? Thanks for any links. Seriously contemplating the swap for my 67 Camaro. I could sell off my old school sbc in parts for a good chunk of that price. Jason

The stuff the magazines do are typically L92 cylinder heads and a cam. The heads are cheap from GM new and cheaper used I imagine and perform Ok for that range but you could obviously go aftermarket. The cams they use probably aren't terribly aggressive so again, you could go bigger and the cost may not be much more.

Your best bet for specific builds would probably be on the ls1tech forums.

Carb'd type builds are not worth the investment IMO.
Assuming you get an engine with all the sensors, harness, and ECM.
For the intake and Edelbrock LS tuning module you're looking at ~$650
Plus the cost of a carb unless you have one so figure + $300+

So you're looking at ~$1,000 to go backwards in technology.

You can spend the same if you keep the EFI
1. ECM reprogram $75 (guy on ebay) or $300 John Speartech or buy HP tuners and DIY.
2. Harness Modifications - DIY for free, OR pay John Speartech ~$400
3. In tank fuel pump modifications - DIY kits for < $50 or buy a Spectra EFI tank new for ~$450-$600 with pump.
4. In tank fuel pump $230 give or take.

So you want to go carbed why exactly ?? It will run better with the computer.
I put an LS1 in my 78 Camaro. The prices have come waaaaay down with the Gen IV motors
VS the Gen III LS1/2/3 etc motors. I also agree, L92 heads are what you want.
300-320cfm right out of the factory. LS1 heads IIRC were ~250cfm.

I did the build - by the time I swapped everything over- intake- front drive- etc- I would have been money ahead buying an LS6- BUT that LQ4 rocked- ton of power
