Default 6L80 or 8L90 behind a SBC/BBC

Has anyone ever successfully swapped either a 6L80 or 8L90 auto behind a non-LS engine? Is it even possible? My car presently has a 385"sbc, TH350 w/TCI converter, and 3.42 gear in the back. My last four cars have been 6spd manuals and I'm just not interested in going that route, again. Prefer not to settle on another 4spd auto, either.

Thanks for any input.

This should not be a problem as long as you buy the separate control for it,there is a few companies that sell these controllers for trans.without running thru ecm,If you need a trans. I have a brand new from gm not remanufactured 6L90 for a 2012 CTS-V rear wheel drive that I am about ready to post for sale.I bought a new LS9 that it was going to be used with.send me a pm if interested.

After doing some more research on this, I found out that installing a 6L80 6spd auto in our cars is possible and not quite as complicated as I thought. Just got off the phone with Jim@Zero Gravity Performance in Phoenix. Zero Gravity sells everything needed for the installation, from individual parts to a turn-key kit. If I decide to do it, I will have my trans shop supply the transmission and just purchase the stand-alone controller, TPS, and other misc parts needed, from Zero Gravity.

I believe that the 8L90 top of the bell housing bolt was moved (to accommodate the direct injection), comparing it to the 6L80.

The 6L80 bell housing is its a full circle all the way around and not notched like earlier GM transmissions (e.g. TH350 / TH400 / etc.) are for torque converter access.

E.g. 4L80 on the right, 6L80 on the left:

I'd talk with Speartech:

They do harnesses, etc.

I did talk with Speartech, about six months ago, and they couldn't help me but did refer me to Zero Gravity.
