10 bolt, 12 bolt, Ford 9" or???

What kind of HP #'s can a refreshed "built" 10 bolt handle?

I cirrently have a 10 bolt in my car, but the 406 I am building should push 500 lb. tq. so I'm debating going to a 12 bolt, or if I even need to for that matter
And, rather than a 12 bolt, I might as well go to a Fab 9 or Ford 9", so what's the hot setup or do I even "need" a new rear end?

Which 10-bolt is it? There is one that is really almost as strong as a 12-bolt and some argue maybe stronger. I think it is an 8.5" but not sure of the specifics. Some racers use those and go deep into the 6's. Depends on auto vs stick, gearing, etc, etc.

Just drive it till it breaks. Then call Frank@Prodigy for a Moser 33 spline TrueTrac 12-bolt setup if you still drive mostly on the street and/or autocross. If looking for brute strength race setup and don't mind the bad street manners then he can get you a Moser 9" or Fab 9 with 35 splines and a Locker or Spool. Orrrrrr you could spring for the 35 spline WaveTrac and let us know how it works :-) .

the 8.5" 10 bolt can be built to be almost as strong as a 12 bolt if your on a budget. Hot Rod Mag did a article on it.

Build the 8.5" you have. If you plan on any dragstrip launches make sure you have the axles welded where it meets the housing. Thats the only thing I didn't do to mine I wish I did.
