Feature of the Month
Malitude was originally
built
by Mark Stielow. Very cool car that he sold to a friend and he sold it
to me. I was originally just going to do a simple re-paint to fix some
issues, but things soon changed. :)
There is a huge advantage buying a car built from Mark
Stielow............. you get all the hard work and engineer- ing already
done! He had already done the minitub and frame mods, and had sorted
out the suspension. All I had to do was clean everything up, have a few
items re-powdercoated, and bolt them right back on the car. Since I had
the car apart and was going to change the engine and wheels, I decided
a color change was also on the list. Not a huge fan of red, and since I
was changing enough that nobody would know the car was the same one
Mark built, I decided to do it the way I wanted it.
I had a twin turbo LS2 sitting in my shop, a leftover from a previous
project.Since I had to pull the car completely apart to paint it, I
might as well swap over to the modern LS engine, right? So I sold the
twin turbo small block the car came with, and started the installation
of the LS. I wanted to keep the 4L80E trans the car came with, so a
simple spacer and flexplate swap mated that up to the LS engine.
We can add more text here. As I was deciding what motor/trans/ wheels
to go with i sent the car to the body shop where Keith and his brother
Steve did all the body work K&M AUTOKRAFT did the body and
labored 300 hours into the once rust free original panel car. I had
them shave the rain gutters fill in all side marker open- ings all
factory seams and antenna hole. I had all the gaps and panels spaced
evenly. then I choose a ford gt-40 color for my paint. a ghost stripe
was also added on the tail for that extra touch. Once back from body I
bought a set of corbeau gtIII seats and had them recovered to match the
factory pattern in white and the rears followed. I had all the plastic,
chrome and headliner redone. I dynamatted the entire interior before i
installed the original gauge cluster that redline gauge works redid for
me. They converted my amp gauge to a volt gauge and installed a tach
for me. They also refinished my gauges in white. Soon after i had the
suspension done by Al's performance. They installed my bear brakes
front and rear, hotchkis sway bars, tubular upper controls arms from
Firm Feel, I had Paul from hydratech set me up with a hydroboost system
for the car as well. All new bushings and shocks were installed. I had
them powder coat the entire suspension and k member.
