What is a good digital camera out there for the novice photographer??? My build pics have been less than spectacular mostly due to the el' cheapo digital camera I currently have. It will mostly be used for car/build pics. The wife has her own for 'family stuff'. I don't want to spend more than $500-$600. Should I get an inexpensive SLR, a "point and shoot", or ??? Any help is much appreciated!!!

An SLR will give you the best results and the most flexability. You will also be able to add lenses if you decide to get more fancy.
Consumer versions of SLR digi cams arn't too expensive. The downside is that they are large.
What you want is a camera that does well in lower light (typical for build shots) and one that is at least 5mp.
Canon makes some nice units. I have a small back-up camera called a G3 -- it's great for tech photos and lower light. You can find they used for cheap.

If you decide on getting an SLR type let me know and I will help you. I also might be selling my 20D soon to upgrade to a 5D.

Steven let me know when you are getting rid of the 20D my wife is needing a new camera.
How did the 20d compare to other camera's?Which would you suggest I buy in that price range?

I like the Nikon D40 SLR Digital Camera.

I also had great luck with my Canon A620, which I think was replaced by the G7.
