Does anyone have any idea what backpacing to run on the rear wheel for a 70 chevelle with a 10.5" wheel and 315/35/17 rear tire?

I'm gonna guess between 5.75"-6" but you'll need to measure to be sure.
I'm having some 18x10 rears made for my '70 SS454 as we speak and the b/s is 5.75".I'm running 295/35's just to be safe (and because I didn't want to cut up the car).My original plan was to run 335/30's.
Drop Jon a line @ www.driverzinc.com and see what his data says...
I agree. Most guys with 11" wide wheels run 6" bs. With 315 tires there isn't any room for mistakes. I would measure to be sure.

That's why I gave up the dream of running 335's...
What size rubber are you gonna stuff in the back of your ride 7TSS...?
I already mocked up some 305/45-18's. Had 'em on 18 x 9.5's w/ 5.5" bs. pretty tight fit.

Now I have the same tires on 18 x 10 w/ 6" bs. I don't want to roll the wheelwell lips so I pushed the tires in a little. They clear the frame easily but not sure on the inner tub. Might need a small spacer. We'll see when the body goes back on.

I would run an 11" wheel personally; there is plenty of room and the wider the wheel the stiffer the sidewall will be.
315/35 on a 17 x 11 is right at the limit for a 68-72 A-body so you have to take very careful measurements.
You need to get the backspacing perfect. You may also have to trim the lip, and depending on how low your car is it may very well rub the reinforcement rib in the outer wheelhouse located above the fender lip-- that's where the clearance problem is on my car. I had to drop back to 285/40 on my 11" wheels because of the clearance issue with the outer wheelhouse reinforcement.
Depending on your brake configuration with a stock-width rear end you'll probably need between 6" and 6.5" of backspacing to get an 11" wheel with a 315/35 to fit. Most guys seem to end up with 6.25"; I ended up with 6.5" because of the extra thick aluminum hats on my 2-piece Baer rotors.
Remember, if there is any doubt on outer lip clearance always order the wheel with a little more backspacing; that can be easily corrected with a small spacer. Not enough backspacing and you'll be ordering new wheels.
There is a big wheel & tire database thread over in the wheels & tires section at Chevelles.com I suggest you browse through.
