The McLeod RST Street Twin has arrived so we spent part of the weekend installing the clutch and their Modular Bellhousing. Since the camera was handy we decided to document the installation.

1. The motor plate has been set on the back of the engine supported by the dowl pins and bolt to hold it in place.

2. The McLeod aluminum flywheel has been secured with ARP flywheel bolts. No loctite was used, just a dash of oil, and the bolts were torqued per McLeod specs.

3. GM roller Pilot Bearing has been installed in the crank. Be sure to use the correct pilot bearing for your application. The LS7 comes with a larger pilot bearing which is correct for the Corvette but won't work for the T-56 swap.

4. The first (Flywheel) "bottom" disc is in place, sitting between the flywheel and the base ring. This was about the point that we discovered that the McLeod supplied spline tool was not the correct size for the roller pilot bearing. A quick trim and it was functional if nothing else.

5. The second (Pressure Plate) "top" disk sits between the base ring and the Pressure Plate which has been bolted to the base ring.

6. Torqued to 25 ft.lbs. the RST clutch assembly is now installed and ready for the bellhousing and transmission.

7. A new hydraulic throwout bearing/slave cylinder assembly has been installed on the transmission. The bellhousing was placed to check clearances for the hydraulic line and bleeder. A little bit of filing was required on the transmission to provided sufficient clearance for the stock quick connect fitting. The stock GM bleeder is on the way out and a remote bleeder from LAPD is on the way.

8. The McLeod bellhousing is in place and has been bolted to the engine using (proper) metric bolts picked up from the local bolt supply house. Check the bolts that are delivered with your package, standard thread bolts were supplied as part of the installation kit.

9. With a minimum of fuss the Rockland Standard "Son of Tranzilla" T-56 is installed using an American Touring Specialties T-56 crossmember.

I hope this helps someone, sometime. Be sure to use the proper torque specs and follow the manufacturer's recommendations at all times.

Cheers,

I'm in line waiting for this clutch myself:(

Hopefully it comes in pretty soon. I want to get this thing back on the road.

Nice writeup.

We replaced the stock bleeder assembly with a remote bleeder assembly.

The stock bleeder assembly was a pain to get at and left alot to be desired in terms of efficiency; the remote setup allows for clean and easy bleeding.

we'll fabricate a bracket to hold the bleeder on the transmission.

quick, easy, simple, and efficient
