ive been smoking daily for many years now and its just time for me to stop.ive been smoke free 2 days.not a biggi to some but if youve been there done that you understand.i dont drink and
i work 70 hours plus a week .i really feel good today and now im not buying dutch treat all the time i may have some camaro bucks.
just looking for opinions from you guys.sorry if this topic is no good/ i will understand deletion from mods

Keep your self busy(GET YOU BUTT IN THE GARAGE), the work load you have will help but keep your self busy, As we all know once you smoke you tend to just lounge around and do nothing. I use to smoke about 12 + years ago when I was in high school on a daily baisis and did nothing in those years other than sale my 69 ss camaro sell my 69 nova and loose a job.

I hope this will help with the motivation. I have "been there done that" but it was alot of years ago and I have to do randon and annual drug tests due to my job and license. I started going back to church about 10 years ago and met this single guy at church. He liked cars, guns, and baseball. It was all the the Wrong cars(ford), and baseball teams(yankees) but I put up with it. He bought a 67 mustang and I worked him through parts choices and helped with the work. So jump forward 10 years, and numerous bottles of beer, several 1000 rounds of ammo, greasey handsand busted knuckles, alot of Red Sox yankee games, and his marriage of 19 months but i never knew he smoked weed occasionally and neither did his wife until they where engaged. I guess a habbit left over from his younger days. Well the long time free spirited single guy and a some what anal female started having a tuff time adjusting to marriage and life together. His causal habbit increased as marital preasures did. I found out about his pot use 2 months ago when he started acting weird and unstable. He is now in the county jail and is loosing EVERYTHING. He is on 23.5 hour a day lock down and headed for the mental ward. It looks like he had found and been smoking some "really good stuff" but what made it really good has fried his brain. He made about 6 very bad choices all of them are way out of character for him. Our pastor has known him much longer than I and is visiting him 4 times a week and has told me the person we new is not there any more.:(

Weed never made me go crazy or got me locked up. It sounds like you're kinda like I was. A highly functioning pot head. I work around the same number of hours as you and have my own business. I never hurt anyone, but I did like to smoke and drink, all the other stuf wasn't for me. I don't even take asparin or drink caffeine, but I loved the kush. I tried to quit a couple of times but there was no motivation to do so. All my friends were still smoking and I was still living the same lifestyle.

I then met my wife. She was totally different than my previous girlfriends and wasn't so accepting of my habit. I havn't looked back. I feel much more comfortable around my family and don't have to rush off in the middle of a family event because my friends were all partying without me. I still drink a little, but I don't crave the wacky tabacky like I thought I would. About 6 months ago I took a bong hit of the kill to see what affect it would have on me. It wasn't the same. I felt high, but I also felt guilty and uncomfortable around my wife, which I never want to feel again. I still have alot of the same friends that smoke, just that they respect who I am and realize the changes I've made.

It's not like pot is going to ruin your life like crack will, it will just keep you in the same place you've always been. Like treading water. I'm not trying to get back those 14 years of smoking, I'm just trying to be better than I was. I love spending time with my little neices and nephews, and it feels good that they can look up to me and I don't feel guilty about a damn thing. I guess you gotta change in your own way. I'm not a religious man so I can't tell you if that works or not, but I'll help you out any way I can. PM me if you want and I'll help you out on what helped me out.

You can do it. If you work 70 hours a week, you have the will to quit.

Good luck to you man. I agree that if you can work 70 hours a week, you can quit smoking. Stay busy, stay focused, and push yourself. You'll make it.

I've found that smoking weed and quitting is more in the ritual of smoking than the actual effects from it. Sure it's great to feel that high but when someones quitting I've noticed it's all the stuff that surrounds it that they most miss and have a hard time breaking that routine.

I had a friend that smoked all day everyday. He'd wake up, take a bong hit, eat, do some work, take few more bong hits, chill a little, do some work, etc.(He was a web designer so he worked at home!). He met a girl and she didn't put up with his pot smoking so he tried to quit. Took a while but afterwards that is what he told me. He didn't miss the high as much as he missed all the routine that went on around it. Buying it, prepping it to smoke, smoking it, etc.

After he quit he told me that he never realized how much time in his day was taken up with the pot smoking routine. He had WAY more time now to do other stuff.

:thumbsup: well its been about a week and im fealling great.im down on my weight/thats for my other post.im quite busy and it feels like i may have this thing beet .my wife is helping me get thrue it,god i love that women/support helps but the decision to qiutwas all mine.between the 5 bills amonth habit and eating like a glutton i can honestly say i feel real good.:)

This is not intended as any sort of comment on those who have done such things. Instead this is an honest thought concerning something that seems to be very popular, and thus I have a question; what is the appeal? now understand that I have never even been drunk before! Thus, I don't get it. Why the desire to drift off onto some less than real experience such as smoking pot, or even in getting drunk? Inquiring minds want to know!

And young man, I would like to commend you on your progress of setting down the sacred blunt. I know getting into sports and/or an excersize routine helped me out also. Keep it up. We're all pulling for you.

Hmmm... I think I get what you're saying. Like I said, I certainly don't want anyone to think I am commenting on people who have done such things. I'm just lucky that the desire for some form of escape is not a part of my make up, though, as C. S. Lewis points out, I am sure that I pay for this in that I am lacking the good desire from which this bad one is the extension.

Been there done that myself.
Many years lighting up to calm down after a challenging day. Not a heavy smoker but consistent.
7 years constantly in the air during my Rock-n-Roll gigs. Practices, rehearsals, pre and post shows.
Went on a 3 day camping trip and got really wasted on the KGB the first day. Next day I had a one on one with the man above. I decided then to set my priorities straight and decide what was important to me. I was a new dad of a 1 yr old son. That is where my priorities need to be. My family.
Failing a $500,000.00 life insurance piss test a couple of months later assured me the decision to quit was the correct decision.
Soon, I found out who my true friends were.
We used to say, A friend with weed is a friend indeed.
Where are they now? Oh! that's right, I don't smoke it anymore. So they don't come around anymore either.

I learned that being under the influence wasn't the high!
It was the ritual of smoking weed that was the high.

Sure I still see some of those friends from time to time and they still light up. Some of them have been divorced, in jail, and or lost their jobs ext...
For me it's been 9 years since my last toke and I don't miss it at all.

im at like 12 or 13 days now.i feel great.thanks for all the support.im full of energy and have been working out every other day.im doing a whole lifestyle change.one day at a time

Congrats speedshftr! Any addiction is a tough nut to crack, and there will be stumbles and hard times, but don't let those get you down, in the end you'll manage it!

I smoked heavily for a number of years. Now I only smoke a couple of times a year. Much more stimulating, and easier on the wallet!:thumbsup:

Good to hear about the hiatus. Finding a healthier addiction is good, such as working out. I find my sobriety is like my high now. I was always active, now I'm running on 110 octane. Keep it up young man. We're all pulling for you.

I quit smoking at 21 after a 2 or 3 pack a day habit -- I 'declared war' on the smokes -- they were the enemy -- and type A personalities do NOT LIKE TO LOSE! So as long as I told myself - those stupid little cigs are not going to control me! A cigarette is not going to tell me what to do! Ever! I've never had a smoke since - and I'm 56 now...

DO NOT LET "THEM" WIN! They have no brains - you do!

im still going strong/its been over 20 some days.im working out and feel really good about everything.im not gonna lie and say the treat doesnt come to my mind but thats just it.it ends there.i think i got it now.now i dont need to hustle up fast cash so often cause 120 a quarter hurts after a few months at 4 a month.now my focus is on my camaro.just ordred some new camaro parts and im looking forward to installing them.im very strong mentally and i just proved it to myself a little more.thanks for all the kind words and stories.

i have not drank in over 10 to 12 years/that was a mess compared to the ganja.both are bad one just to a lesser extent

I'm not going to tell you to pray, or that weed will make you crazy, or that you're a bad person for smoking, or any of the the other health class nonsense. I've seen alcohol destroy way more lives than weed. I don't smoke, I quit about 7 years ago. Some people smoke and it's fine for them, but if you think it's time for you to quit, you're probably right. Best of luck, just don't lose sight of why you're quitting. After about a month, quitting anything becomes alot easier, whether it's weed, cigarettes, alcohol, overeating, whatever. Just stay on top of your game. :thumbsup:

My brother smoked daily. I nicknamed him "Pooky".
He was dumb as a box of rocks most of the time.

He quit, because he got a job as a Union heavy equipment operator and it
required his CDL-A license. They randomly pop them too , so he quit.
He said the first 2-3 weeks are slightly tough......but he pulled through.

He still smokes cigs though.....

Congrats man and keep it up. I was younger when my uncle got caught but i have seen it ruin his life. He was dealing as well as smoking and when he went to the pen it almost tore our family apart. Seeing what the bad side of drugs can do to a family has always kept me away from them. I hope you stay strong my friend.

Last year when I was a Freshman in Highschool one of my best friends failed a drug test and was sent to jail for 3 years. It sucks really bad knowing that I will never ever see my friend again because of stupid crap like this. Just think about what you are doing to your friends when you want light it up.

I have also seen a kid overdose in the hallway and collapse on the ground in the middle of the hallway in 8th grade. I never wanted to start using drugs after I had seen that.
