O rings for A/C lines

The o rings that came with my stuff from Vintage Air were green. Is there anything special about them or can I use plain black o rings of the appropriate size for replacement?

the green is a different material than most of the black ones. They are made for use with R134a. Supposedly the standard black ones won't hold up. I couldn't tell you because I've always used the green ones with R143a...

Figured so. I had tons of extras except in the #8 size. Now I need to find some. Always on a weekend when a lot of shops are closed.

Would they have them at Advance or Autozone?

Yes...they'll probably sell you an o-ring kit, as they figure it's easier to sell you a group of common sizes, rather than picking them out individually.

If you've had your system cracked open, make sure you change your drier since you have to evac the system anyway.

What exactly happens to the drier? Found the o-rings at Advance.

the drier collects moisture in the system. When left open for a period of time, the dessicant becomes saturated. If you evacuate the system for an extended period of time, you can remove the moisture.

If the plugs have stayed in it in storage, it will be good. If it doesn't make a sucking sound when you pull the plugs- the vacuum that they store it with has been compromised. That tells ya it's time for a new one.
