I just read on another site that Roy has lung cancer and isn't doing well. Does anyone have anymore information on his condition? I like Roy and his attitude. I know some people don't like Boyde, but I have alot of respect for someone like Roy.
That's too bad, that's one guy who I actually liked on that show.

Sorry to hear it. He's probably forgotten more about fabrication and metal finishing than any of the other guys will ever know.

That's to bad. On last night's show where they did the car for the Make-A-Wish foundation I saw Roy being brought in at the end of the show in a wheel chair.

Ain't that the truth!
I liked him on the show as well. Colorful & no BS. Said it like it was & if you didn't like it, oh well. I think that's what I liked about him.

Roy is a great guy, he helps make the show. Those young guys should listen to his every word on building cars. I dont see them using lead instead of bondo. By the way- who would want that make a wish car when the whole body had to be covered in filler. I pity the poor soul who has to strip that one down one day. You couldnt get a refrigerator magnet to stick to that one.

well im sorry...but i dont see a problem with skim coating every panel with filler, and sanding it back down to no more than a couple sheets of paper thickness. without spending thousands of hours metal finishing, its the only feasable way your gonna get a car "perfect". there is absolutley nothin wrong with body filler is used correctly, now i didnt see the show, so i cant say for sure how they "used" it........ but boyds is one of the best shops in the country...and im pretty sure they arent doin anything that isnt up to par.
back on topic, its really too bad about roy, metal working is becoming a lost art, true artists like roy, and marcel are getting fewer and fewer, and the next generation is running out of time to tap as much of their knowledge as they can. i personally have spent hours and hours watching and listening to a more than a few old timers trying to pick up a few tricks that they learned from years and years of expierence.

What a total bummer, that guy is the Genuine Article.
Just heard he passed away, RIP Roy.
Yep, and his wife just passed away as well.
This is a post I really don't want to write and it is being done with great sadness. Roy's wife, Laura, had been battling an illness for quite sometime, and last week she succumbed to that illness and passed away. She and Roy were soul mates and needless to say that devastated Roy. Last night Roy joined her in Heaven. He passed away ending his bought with lung cancer.
We wanted to let all of you who wrote in know that Roy did get your messages. He, as well as his family and all of us at Boyd Coddington's Garage appreciated all your thoughts and prayers. Roy was very special to us and he will be sorely missed.
May God bless Roy and Laura.
Thank you Roy.
