View Full Version : 64-67 A-Body rearends. Just need a measurement!
Can anyone tell me the width of a 64-65 GM A-Body rear and the width of a 66-67 A-Body rearend? Specifically Chevelle but I assume they're the same housings. I found a deal on a 66 Chevelle 10 bolt with a posi-unit but don't want to get it and find out it's an inch wider than what's in my 64 Buick.
Thanks in advance!!

I don't have the measurements handy but 64-66 chevelle used the narrow rear early 67 does too. late 67-72 use the wide rear.
I don't know about what the break down of Buick is but 66 Olds can have a narrow or wide rear. 64-65 and some 66 use the narrow rear.
A quick check I have found is 2 fingers between the control arm and shock bracket is wide and 1 finger is narrow. Your fingers my vary :D

Also, I found this on chevelle.com
* 1964-67 Chevelle rear ends were manufactured by the Chevrolet Gear and Axle Division. The housing measures 56.5 inches from flange to flange, and with the brake drums in place, the total width is 60.5 inches.
I had the stock 10 bolt of my chevelle laying behind the shop for about 6 months, finally I had it hauled away last week or I could of went and measured to be sure.
Thanks Guys! I think I'm going to try to snag this rearend.
