I have an aluminum manifold, I want to have it chromed
(no it's not an Edelbrock I can just buy in Endurashine, it's a custom manifold)
I hear it's a bad idea, will flake eventually, and have heard the opposing view that if done correctly it's OK
And powdercoating isn't shiny enough from any I have seen
so, anyone have experionce / feedback on this?

Back in the early 80's when chrome was king........... :D I had several aluminum items chromed on my boat; tunnel ram, valve covers, engine rails and plates, etc. Had the stuff for years, never had any flaking or issues with it. I'd say it's all in the prep and quality of the chrome plating, if done correctly should be fine.

Had a lot of chrome on this one too, but no good pics.........................

Jody is right. Its all in the prep. Anodized pieces will need to be chemically stripped. We've done quite a few fabricated Aluminum Valve Covers without any issues.
ps... Jody that boat SCREAMS 1980's..... even without the mention of the "tunnel ram"

no, never had a fro..................... :D In the day the hydro paint job was considered "cool". Ran low 10's at about 119 mph and was a ball to drive. :wow: The blown alcohol runner bottom was fun too, but never could get it to take a set, kinda spooky with the foot down.............. :faint:

There is NO DOUBT that back in the day - those were kool boats!
I once got my hair "permed" -- my wife won't let me forget it.... :(
Jody,
That blue boat looks EXACTLY like one a buddy bought from a salvage company here in Washington. They had brought it back up from the bottom of Lake Washington. It had a Ford 460 in it and was a jet drive though. Needless to say it was rotten all the way through under the 'glass. He parted it out, sold off the hull and in the end doubled his money. The paint job was the twin to yours.
There you go guys, a dose of useless info for your Friday evening.:D

Sadly ..... I'm somehow certain of that!
Just stopped for the night -- 811 miles of driving today is plenty!
Gettin' closer! Can you smell me?
