To All:

Can someone tell me the diameter of a 1977 Trans Am Steering wheel? I read they gat a bit bigger after 1974 or 75, then in 76 they remained the same until the third generation.

The difference in thickness was a bit of padding.

I am wanting to translate the 13 or so inches, whatever it winds up being to mm's.

Thanks,

Ty

the frames are all the same diameter. 70-74 had a thinker foam padding. 75-81 fell thin compared to the earlier wheel. they repop the early wheel. Lecara makes a nice leather substitute. I dont know the numerical diameter off the top of my head.

Not sure if the camaro and TA were the same(or even close) but my 70 rs steering wheel is 15 1/8" outside edge to edge. (25mm per inch FYI).

I think the t/a formula wheel is around 14". The later wheels have a thicker grip

Thanks Everyone:

I had one for years and liked it a lot. I'm getting ready to buy one and I didn't want to go to small.

I appreciate ALL your help.

Thanks again.

Went and measure one from a 79 and one from a 74
depending on where I measured, all measurements varied about .0625 or 1/16" roughly

74. same as 70-74

overall dia. 14.25" +/- .0625
thickness of foam. (perpendicular to stitching. ie. front to back of car) - 1.125 +/- .0625

79
same as 75-81 except pace car and 10th anniversary. they follow 70-74 measurements. grey in color.

dia - 14.074-14.1"
thickness of foam. (perpendicular to stitching. ie. front to back of car) - 1" +/- .0625

hope this helps
