One of my friend's Dads just bought a '57 Buick, which looks looks to be very complete and in pretty good shape from the pics. He's not the pro-touring type - he's looking for more of a restoration with maybe a later model overdrive transmission and keep the nailhead etc..
I told him that I would put a feeler out for some recommended shops near him. I'm not from the area so I don't know of any off the top of my head, so that's where you all come in!
He's a mechanical guy and will likely want to be involved at some level, but the reality is he travels and is very busy with his job, so he would need someone to complete the majority of the work.

Hmmm...off the top of my head:
The Car Shop (http://www.carshopinc.com/index.php), in Moline. Not sure if they do restos and stuff but they would know who to go to around here.
Yogi's (http://www.yogisinc.com/index.cfm), Monticello, IA. They do good work and could handle the resto and trans swap.
And there's always Lakeside Rods & Rides (http://lakesiderodsandrides.com/) and FastLane (http://www.fastlanerodshop.com/), but those are $$$ and probably a waiting list.
Otherwise, Chicagoland area isn't that far away...Schwartz (http://www.schwartzperformance.com/) and Speed Inc. (http://www.ls1speed.com/)

Thanks, I guess I hadn't thought about Chicago not being that far away.
I'll be talking to him in a few weeks and I'll be able to get a better idea of what his expectations are for the car.

A good shop to have this type of work done is Lakeside Rods and Rides in Rockwell City,Iowa. This shop does excellent work and is reasonable on price.

Thought of a couple more smaller local shops:
T&T Enterprises (http://www.ttenterprisesonline.com/), Wheatland, IA
Larry's Auto Shop, McCausland, IA 563.225.6431
