I've always preferred the short one-piece spoilers on the early second gens, purely from a looks standpoint. The taller 3 piece spoilers probably add more downforce for racing, but I still was going to run the shorter one, with carbon fiber stripes........... :)

I have a thing for the tall spoilers. They just seem to give the car a little more muscle. Just my opinion.

i prefer the short spoilers on on 70-73, for me the tall one just sticks out like a sore thump on them and doesn't "flow" smoothly like the rest of the body. it seems to fit the later years better though, but honestly im not much of a fan for their styling to begin with...
but im pretty sure this will really just have to be a personally decision on your behave cause that a pretty split down the middle debate on which one looks better.

For thirty some years I have always been a huge fan of the tall spoiler. I grew up next to a guy that had a 70rs w/ tall spoiler and I loved it!
Then over recent years I hear Scott and Jody voicing their opinion on the shorter spoilers and it got me thinking! I actually like the looks of those now too! I usually prefer the looks of a 'clean' car with style that 'flows'...so I have to admit that I have been leaning towards the shorter spoiler in recent years. However! I usually say that if it's going to run the big front airdam then it needs the tall spoiler to balance the look/style of the car...then I see the renderings that Jody had done and I love them! Maybe I just love the second gens so much that they can't look wrong in my eye!
With all that said I think I would have to vote for the tall...it's been my fav for the longest time...but the car would need the front spoiler as well!
Yeah I argue with myself on a regular basis! :willy:

Having lived with my car for 30 years now and being a big fan of these cars for years, the tall 3-pc D-80 spoiler does it for me bigtime.
My car is a very early '70-model that either had this spoiler adapted or possible came with it originally.
With styling cues taken directly from the Ferrari 250,you can certainly see the "kammback" design in full-effect on the 2nd Gen Camaro.
Tall 3-piece rear spoiler,Rally Sport front end treatment w/front spoiler...that's what drew me to my car when I was just 24 and that image is still burned into my brain as "standard equipment" on these cars...IMHO.:unibrow:
Oh and...with a hood as wide & flat,I think these cars look odd without Z/28 stereo stripes or a center stripe...but that's just me.;)

Thanks for the responses I am still on the fence, the rendering picture is along the lines of what I am building.
I will be making all the chrome body color, with black trim, flat hood, three piece gunmetal wheels with chrome lips, c6 z06 calipers
I have attached picture of seats and wheel, and a car built by Detroit Speed that has me leaning towards the Tall spoiler.
will see what the survey says but the weekend

IMO the car looks naked without the tall spoiler. The short one looks cool in pictures, but in real life the tall spoiler does wonders to the lines of the car.

Tall is a must for me.
I have a 78z and I personally think the low spoiler belongs on a Berlinetta or V6 wimpy model.
70-73 should be Tall spoiler + Front spoiler + 2" cowl hood = perfected aggressive look IMO.
Ever seen a 78-81z with a low deck spoiler?? No.....

I Have always been a fan of the short spoiler on
70-73 Camaro's but the choice is not that simple
anymore as they also look really good PROTOURED "if that's a word"
with the tall spoiler
So survey is almost a week old and it's 50-50
will see were we stand on Saturday.
Thanks

It's all tied up again.....31 to 31 with my vote for the tall 3 piece spoiler.
I have ALWAYS loved the 2nd Gen with the tall spoiler. Don't get me wrong, I like the one piece, as well. But it really depends on the car. As always, it is your car, and YOU have to live with it. Go with your gut instinct on the choice!! :D

Well stated Scott, don't get me wrong...personally I like the short spoiler but there's no arguing that the D-80 spoiler looks 100% racer and certainly creates more downforce.
Almost like it was designed for racing...oh wait,it was...it was homologated for Trans-Am racing.:unibrow:
But as Scott also stated...it's (the OP) your car and your decision, you'll be the one paying the bills and the one living with it each and every day.
Your car,your dream,your vision...

i spent a little time browsing photos fo second gens.. and on a white car my vote is the tall one... on a metallic silver or other color that pops more (hugger orange) the shorter one gets my vote..

How about this? Take the 3 piece and modify it to a shorty:unibrow:

I put a short spoiler on mines. The reason i did was because the full spoiler covers the quarter and is too tall. Besides having new quarters and drilling them does not sound good to me.:( I also like no spoiler. I was thinking of having 2 deck lids. One with holes for the spoiler and 1 without.

I voted for the tall spoiler, now I have to say that my first 2nd gen Camaro that was actually my first car back in the 80's I was running without a spoiler completely. I have always liked the really clean look of a 71-73 RS without spoilers.
Another part of this subject. Has anyone done any wind tunnel testing on the 2nd gens to see what effect these spoilers have. Now I know that is a very expensive thing to do. I kind of think that back in the late 60 early 70 these where more designed for looks then function.

The 3-piece D80 spoiler was homologated for SCCA Trans-Am racing,Chevrolet acually stole Pontiac's center section and designed their own end caps.
You can bet the taller spoiler creates a ton more downforce than the 1-piece.

i was having trouble with witch spoiler to use short or tall. but when i studied the back of the car lowered the short spoiler got lost and the tall one looked at home. i do love the short spoiler on stock build cars but i think on a pro tour car tall spoilers fit the car
