I have a question for anyone who has knoledge of the new upgrade for the FAST XFI, that is the new XFI 2.0. I have an XFI but haven't installed it yet. ( car not back yet ) Its supposed to be able to learn, nothing extensive like the EZ EFI can. Will the new software help me with the initial start up ? Will it allow me to drive the car later on to get it tuned by a pro tuner? Its going on my world 454 sb crate motor. Not sure if that matters. I won't need any of the forced induction apps. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

I just read up on this on the FAST site...seems to allow self-tuning...The basic XFI has canned tables to choose from to help you get started. You will still need to do the basic set-up. I will be sending in my XFI in for the firmware upgrade. Mine is tuned, but I want to see if I can use it to improve my poor fuel economy a bit. You can revert back to your prior manual input settings if you don't want the self-tune program.

I just called today to try to get an RMA to send my unit in for updating. They said they are still working on it and maybe it will be released by February 1st. After that they will be able to issue an RMA.

Thanks for the heads up. Did they have a price yet?

I didn't ask. I've seen prices of $50 for the update and $100 if you want the new 2.0 case.

I called Imagine Injection yesterday to get an "update" on this 2.0 FIRMWARE upgrade... It has not been released yet not even in beta -- but it will sell for $49.95 and you don't have to send the unit back. We discussed it and from what he has been told - it will basically turn an XFI unit into one of their EZ EFI units so totally self tuning.

I have the EZ EFI on my Nomad and it's the best thing that ever happened in EFI for the hobbiest. PERIOD.

Greg did he say if it will effect being able to use multi port efi?

I'm a Greg too. Did you mean sequential ? I'm curious about that too, but I think it should still run sequential in self tune.

I'm sending my box in to them to get the update when available. I would do the upload, but I tried 86 ways to do a firmware upgrade and never got it to work, even with live tech line help doing a walkthought. All connections were good.

Sorry I forgot both of you were Greg's ,Yes thats what I meant.

I didn't ask - but since he knows what it's running on -- a big block with 8 stacks -- I would ASSume it works just fine. The harness would be for 8 injectors... The EZ EFI has to be BOUGHT as a "multipoint" system - or it's built to run their throttle body. They have three or so set ups for the EZ EFI system
and it asks you in "set up" how many injectors and their flow rate and the pressure etc.

The XFI is a sequential system using the cam signal. The EZ EFI is a batch fired system using a standard distributor and using a tach signal input. I would again ASSume since this is a firmware upgrade that they have factored in that it would control the timing and use the cam signal.

I think you won't find much info on it yet - because it's not available yet!

I told my buddy that what I'd do is SELL the XFI unit and harness and buy a EZ EFI and it's proper harness... the XFI used is probably worth more than the NEW EZ EFI. The pricing on the EZ system when you're just buying the ECU and harness is pretty reasonable.

I finnally got intouch with Fast about the release date on the XFI 2.0 download. They have no hard release date yet, but figure it is still one to two months away.

I am doing some of the Beta testing for the 2.0 XFI for FAST. There are a bunch of cool new features that work great so far. We are still in the beta testing stage so looking for any little bugs before you guys get it.

It will auto tune like the EZ EFI, it is more complicated then just plugging in a few parameters like the EZ EFI though. So far it does a real good job on the part throttle driving auto tune.

Greg said XFI is sequential and needs a cam sync... it does not. It can be run in bank to bank like the EZ EFI also if you wish.

The price is going to be $50 or if you purchased your XFI in the last year it will be a free upgrade. $100 if you want to send in your ECU for the 2.0 cover.

It is something you can do yourself by using the flash update wire and the cal file we can send you.

I just got an e-mail from FAST that says the new programming is available.
upgrade (http://www.fuelairspark.com/Pages/296/Software.aspx?AID=3236#CCOMXFI2.0)

The software only upgrade is $49.95 and the ecu & software upgrade is $99.95.

I'll be calling next week to get an RMA :woot:

I just sent my XFI to FAST for the update and new box. I know it will be back before I'm ready for it.

Wayne -- So as I understand the 2.0 "self tuning" upgrade --- it will NOT self tune -- it really should be described as "self healing". In other words IF the tune up is close - the ECU is capable of filling in the blanks or adjusting a VE table using the surrounding cell info and the feedback from the O2.

I was thinking - and the advertising led one to believe - that this was a "self tuning upgrade" and would be capable of self tuning ala the EZ EFI. It will not.

When I asked them they said it will get you going but still needed to be tuned, its not like the EZ. We'll see! There still may be a switch in my future.
