Well about 3 or 4 months ago i bought a 1967 Camaro from a guy in fort worth. Well Replacing a few nuts and bolts led me to ripping alot of the car apart. Currently the car is sitting apart and im trying to figure out what direction i want to take it.

I need some help with the steps of fixing this car up the way i want it. I stopped last month bc i felt like i was probably going to do things to the car that i would end up having to take back off so in essence wasting my time.

Nice Car:thumbsup:
My opinion is to keep it driving. I would start with the mini tubs, and rear suspension (my choice is DSE) Then put back on the road. Keep upgrading it as you go.
My personal experience is that my car has been in the shop stripped right down, I am not able to drive it because I cannot afford to do everything I want to do all at once.
Just my .02

well in order for me to drive it again i need to rewire the entire car. I dont feel like ripping all the wiring out and doing it all over again. Thats my dilemma. Plus i need to smooth the firewall out and in order to do that ill probably have to pull the motor.

cool project!

there are lots of options for suspension and subframes out there. I've learned so much from the Lat-G gang.

I am a big fan of DSE, Art Morrison and I really like dealing with the Speedtech boys.

enjoy the process:D

i started to think about this. with the texture and the likely chance of scraping it off the road i decided to leave it black. Thank you

Sorry guys i havent been on in a long time. Body wise the car is ready to go. Just needs paint. I just ordered this subframe yesterday. unfortunately this took a huge chuck of change and progress will be going much slower now. Not to mention my wife told me 3 weeks ago we are expecting out first child.

another thing i just bought was my tank http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c302/icemanrld19/NewRicksVaporWorxTank.jpg

Will post pictures whenever i get all of my goodies instead of internet pictures. THank you matt at MCB.

Im going to have to hold off for awhile buying any major parts since i just spent alot and we have a child on the way. I plan on bringing the car back to my house so i can work on it myself. Major body work is done. My question is we still have to prime it, paint it and assemble and i need progress to go much slower now so i can save money. At what point sould i have my builder get the car too so that i can start putting parts on whenever i have extra time and money? Should i have him just prime it, paint underneath and the firewall, or what? I dont really want him painting the door jams or the firewall until i completely put the car together so that i know for sure that everything that i want to add is done and fits. I dont want any cutting on any areas already painted.

Im just looking for some overall advice.

Yup i want my car real low too. The lowest i can get it. The rear is going to be 18x12 and i know i can fit a 18x10 in the front but im wondering if that would be the best setup for my car. Either a 18x10 with 275/35/18 or 18x9 with 255/40/18

I did a 9 in the front so it would tuck. I don't have my fender on yet so I couldn't tell ya how much clearance I have.

ok im hearing all sort of different stories. DSE is saying to run a 18x9 and 18x11 with the dse subframe and dse quadralink deep mini tubbed but im seeing people on here running 18x10 and 18x12. Honestly what is the best setup? Im looking to have the car running as low also. Rolling the fenders or cutting the inner fenders on the front isnt a problem. I can do it now since i havent started painting it. which can i get a better flushed tuck look? looking to order rims within a week or so

So 18x10 275/35/18 what offset?
18x12 335/40/18 what offset?

OR

18x9 what tire and offset?
18x11 315/30/18 what offset?

not a lot. I just bolted up the inner fenders and grabbed the corner by the control arm and tugged on it some. I ended up pulling it even with the control arm bolt. I now have atleast a 1/4 clearance at the closes point between the tire and fender.

Does anyone know if a lm7 engine will work for a mock up? I have yet to purchase my engine/trans due to the wife wanting to buy a house lol. A friend is giving me his lm7 engine and im wondering if the outside of the block is the same, motor mounts will work, ls3 front drive accessory, and intake will all atleast bolt onto it so i can wait till i get a killer deal on a ls3/t56

What does everyone use to spray inside the doors or rush preventative and sound deadening? Im going to use dynamat for everything else but what about all the hard reach areas?

we moved into a new house a couple weeks ago and im bringing the car home for alittle then back to the shop to finish it up.

Past couple days we have installed the quarter windows, door glass, wing window, the the trim with the windows mentioned, front spoiler mounted up, mocked up the front calipers, spoiler and narrowed the seats down for the quadralink and mini tub.

Next up this week before it comes home is to install door panels, mock up gauges, turn signal lenses, align front bucket headlights, door locks, and and dynamat the doors

dynaliner installed on the panel. The inside of the door is dynamated. I used one sheet for the door. I didnt feel the need to cover the entire inside of the door. Dynamat is a vibration dampener so this should do. You can tell a difference already just knocking on the door

thank you. Now since its home i get to work on it more and more :)

Heres a short video of the dynamat door Vs non dynamat fender. Its hard to tell in the video but in person OMG there is a huge difference. As far as the dynamat goes i did not cover the entire inside of the door. I cut each sheet in 4" strips and installed it that way leaving a little gap between each sheet. I was able to use one sheet of dynamat per door even adding some on the sides and the front of the door.

Need help with mirror options. I found this on a miata forum

A few weeks ago I was bidding on a pair of rare Garage 502 NB mirrors that popped up on Yahoo Japan Auctions but got outbid fairly quickly. I love the simple design of those mirrors unlike the APR mirrors we always see that require an adapter base. I actually bought a set of SlickAuto APR mirrors the day they first got released and I never thought they matched the car well. I ended up selling them a few months later.

I've always seen Garage Vary cars rock these motorcycle mirrors and since then I've been wanting to do the same on mine.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/EEDD0A9B-E482-4285-BBDF-5E3189ABBEB7-3042-0000039F9A012168_zps691a5771.jpg

Murakami Motors sells a set similar to those but with a price tag close to $500. Being on a budget I decided to try my luck on finding a used set of Magical Racing mirrors from a motorcycle forum. Sure, enough my patience paid off and I found a decent set for a decent price.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_32241022x_zps19e7e0b2.jpg

They had type 1 mirrors with type A bases with an elbow and a 45mm stem....everything I needed.

Next came the SlickAuto Miata bases. You can purchase just the Miata APR mirror adapter kit separately without the mirrors for $90.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_34819252x_zps93271292.jpg

SlickAuto mirrors bases comes with two smaller holes for the mounting of the APR mirror base. I decided to use the threaded hole closest to the driver to mount the Magical racing mirror. The same way the Garage 502 mirrors are off center so they can be clearly seen and not blocked by the triangle pillar on the window.

You can use the magical racing mirror base and mount it on the SlickAuto miata bases but I really hate the way they look stacked on top of each other. I wanted a cleaner look so I went the extra mile.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_49909602x_zpsb1cf2532.jpg

10 mm hole is needed for the Magical Racing stems. The underside of that same hole needs a countersunk hole. 1/2" countersink drill bit took care of that.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_92826732x_zpsf48c6b9f.jpg

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_9867862x_zpsdb06c04c.jpg

For the extra small threaded hole I purchased 3.5 mm stereo jack silicone plugs to cover the hole. It's a bit loose so glue will be needed to stay put.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_8329402x_zpsc348d81b.jpg

Assembled and ready to be mounted.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_39877872x_zpsc707aa55.jpg

Test fit and mirror adjustments before tightening it all down. Right now I'm using the hardware SlickAuto provides in their kit but I plan on replacing those two stainless bolts with black aluminum anodized ones.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_95447762x_zpsad695f2c.jpg

Randy .... not feeling those Miata mirrors! Somewhere in this forum 71-72 GTO mirrors used on first gen Camaro's looked kick a**, I did write down the store .... Ames performance.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your list

well the answer is YES. lol. The tulip panel is the lower side panel on the firewall. When doing a vintage air kit they give you a block off plate. Well that block off plate covers the round hole on the tulip panel. Water is suppose to run inside the tulip panel and come out where the fender and rocker panel meet.

OK ..... the block off plate is for the blower motor correct? The bottom of the outer cowl is supposed to let water and debris run out of the upper cowl and off the side cowls and out the bottom of the car just in front of the rocker. However the front fender usually collects most of the waste and that's why it rusts out.

You need to lay some serious 3M seam sealer inside that side cowl panel, and when you put in your kick panels use the same plumbers putty that the factory used or equivalent to seal the moisture from the carpet and underlayment.

yup my thought exactly. Either way the car wont see rain but i just wanted to make sure. Thank you.

stole your pic but the light comes from the very bottom of the tulip panel.

So i went to install my windlace end caps. How does the metal flat tab install go? Is there suppose to be a hose to where i screw the cap in?

randy
09-17-2013, 08:47 PM
figured it out. The tab just goes behind the ujamb molding. Now my quarter window molding is also there. Im thinking about running a screw into the quarter molding felt that also goes into the windlace end cap to keep it more secure.

I also installed the backseat divider with pading. there was some discussion if the pad side or the board side faces the trunk. Well im using the board size facing the trunk so my pading touches my backseat metal frame. Im then going to dynaline the board side with 1/8 dynaliner since it looks sexy :)

Randy,

Awesome build! Love the color!

Question:

I see early in the thread you said you had your tires: BFG 335/30-18's. But I now see your car is sporting some Michelin tires. Is there a reason you changed?

I have a 67 Firebird I am doing right now... and am in the tire/wheel dilemma of choosing.
Thinking:
18x9 front 18x12 back
or
18x9 front 19x11.5 back

I kind of wanted to run 19's in the back for a bit more ground clearance. (Not such good roads and driveways here in SD) Do you feel you have an OK amount of ground clearance with what you choose? Any rubbing issues?

Thanks,

randy

Thanks,
ground clearance will be plenty fine. 275/35 and 315/30 aspect ratio was spot on. Also the 335 might touch if i really slam the car down. I wanted alittle extra clearance. The 335 bfg run bigger than most 335 tires and they are getting harder to find. Get the 11.5 wheel so you can put either 335 or 315s on. Im very very happy with a 11" wheel and 315s. The tire specs are a perfect match

Randy, Great Build! I have the same project going on. Can you tell me more about the header fitment? I have the DSE front subframe, the DSE engine mounts to locate in the stock position. Did you have to modify anything to get those headers to fit? Until I saw your build I didn't find any headers that worked for this combo. Which mounts did you use? Thanks for the help.

let me pull out my ticket for the headers so i have all the part numbers. Nothing had to be modified. They fit great. I think they are the best headers for the money. I would have liked to have the dse ones because they are meant for the car and fit the best buy couldnt justify the cost right now. Headers hang maybe a inch below the subframe.

need some help.

So i have the passanger side windows to my liking. The problem is the drivers side wing window. I think it sits alittle too low. There is a screw on the inside of the door, bolt on the top right, and bolt on the side if you are looking at it. Now i can take the screw out and pull the window up and tighten the bolts to where i like it but i cant get the screw back in. So i tried the opposite first. Install the screw and then pull the window up. Problem is i cant seem to get enough adjustment this way like i did with the screw out.

Does anyone have a picture or a idea what this screw actually does? I can start the screw but it doesnt seem to go in the correct path. Any help would be great

Parking brake assembly is installed. I wanted to use the most factory parts that i could so i bought a stock parking brake cable kit to use with my c6 brakes. The two rear cables would have been a pain to attach plus they were little long. I managed to open up the hole on the rear brake cable mount to 9/16 and i ordered 1988-1996 corvette rear ebrake cables from oriellys for $20 each using ac delco part number 19143753. These cables are much shorter and fit perfect with my brake kit and quadra link. I will attach pictures but they are not of my car since the car isn't high enough to get pictures. I then used the front cable of my kit and hooked it up to the brake and ran the line thru the subframe. Now here is where i had another problem. The intermediate cable was too short. The correct non big block cable that comes with my car from the factory is 79" long. i need about 3 more inches. Luckily firewheel classics also makes another cable part number pbk-11r for the big block camaro that is 82" long. This will work perfect.. Long store short you want the following :

1988-1995 corvette rear ebrake cables ac delco part number 19143763
67 camaro big block intermediate cable pbk-11r
front cable pbk-10a
Drill out the kore 3 bracket to 9/16"

So theres not much left. Is the DSE battery relocation kit worth it or is there another option? $400 for some wires, bulkheads, and tray seems expensive. What else is everyone doing?

All side trim is completely assembled now.

Phase 1
Install battery relocation kit
Install electrical
Install headlights

Phase 2
Take to www.rodscarcraft.com
Brake lines
Fuel lines
Raise the tunnel
Install headliner
Install vintage air

Phase 3
Bring home
Install seats
Seat belts
Install engine/ trans
Install radiator
Install engine electrical
Install exhaust

Cut a lot out of it. First the crossmember was touching the floor. Only bairly. I had to cut the top down. In order to get to the 3 degree angle i had to cut underneath it exhaust cut outs. The headers were in more than the arches so i had to remove even more metal and offset the crossmember to the right side of the engine. Total PITA.

I still need to learn it up and paint it.

We sell quite a few Speedtech's and BMR's. Issues with those have been minor to none.

Of course in this hobby there area lot of off-the-shelf parts that need to be tweaked to suit your needs, but you have to pretty much reinvent the wheel with that one!

See i want my exhaust close to the floor and to get my driveline angle at 3 degrees. This wouldn't be so bad if i wanted my exhaust to hang little but i don't and my car is slammed. Not to mention the slip on connectors with my stainless works headers didn't fit well either. the bungs location would hit the crossmember

Great work

I agree. It's all about balance. Not easy to do.

Car is looking super sharp! How about some closer pics of that engine bay. I'd like to get a better look at how you ran things. That's going to be my next big challenge.

info for me
- Hook the vss output wire ( brown ) from the bulkhead to the speedometer signal wire
- Hook the tach ( white ) from the bulkhead to the gauge tach signal wire
- Hook the Oil pressure ( Tan/white ) from the bulkhead to the gauges signal wire
- For the water temperature, there is a port located on the right side (passenger side) of the engine, in the cylinder head, past the last exhaust port (closest to the firewall / flywheel). There is a plug threaded in this location, that can be removed. This threaded in plug will either require an 8mm Allen Wrench, or a T52 Torx bit. There will be no noticeable difference in temperature reading when using the shorter sender. The 2277 adapter requires a 3/4" wrench, and the 2259 sender requires a 12mm wrench. Be careful to only tighten the adapter into the head until the crush washer is flattened. Do not over tighten.
- for the voltmeter just hook up the ignition wire from the gauge harness to the gauge
- Samoco unit should be used for the reverse lockout solenoid. You could run it off of the brake pedal but some people have stated some issues. Link to the samoco unit is http://www.wirebarn.com/T56--TR6060-Reverse-Lockout-Control-Module_p_470.html

Engine br30 to break it in and then 5w30 synthetic after that

for anyone that wants to remove some of the couplers from the airraid u-build it kit i did the following.

used the 90 with log straight that i wanted, Found the other angle to cut it around the radiator by temp keeping it together with superglue. I then found the other angle to make a straight transition to the fender pocket and temp used superglue for that angle. Removed the intake tube, marked the 2 extra angles with a marker so it stays clocked right, and used gorilla epoxy to form a strong bond. Allowed everything to sit overnight and sanded everything smooth. Not bad for about $150 plus a lot easier than welding aluminum. Since my close out panel is mounted on the inside of the fender i used 6" inlet and 6" deep k&n filter. If you mounted the filter other the engine bay side of the fender you could use the 6" by 7 1/2 filter . Spectra makes a nice 4" to 6" filter adapter that bolts to the close out panel for $10 or $15 i don't remember. All in all My complete intake setup cost me about $200 to $220

Billet specialties makes a very very nice billet coolant overflow tank. Theres already two holes in the core support that line up. You just have to enlarge them. The mount is about dead middle with the headlight bracket mount but its in line with the two headlight bolts to core support. Nice and clean.

Trying to finalize my ecu and fuse box placement under the dash so i can finish the rest of the wiring. Already have the spal fan connectors and used marine grade wire. Routed the fan wires from inside the car to the blower close out panel in the inner fender by adding a grommet in it. If i don't have enough room i might just make a center console and mount them under that.

Inside the passenger fender i have constant and accessory fused ports mounted to a bracket if i ever needed to power anything up there.

Went with the retro-electro headlight motors which i love, dse wiper mounted is routed inside the AAW fuse harness

As far as under the hood all i need is to route the vintage air hoses, steam vent tube, and add the connectors on the end of my fan wires.

zero issues. very simple to modify so it plugs into my AAW harness. one thing that i wanted to make sure of is that everything in the car can be unplugged. From the revearse lockout box, to the taillights, to the retro-electro motors.

Looking forward to my next day off to look over everything and get some break in runs in it :)

Goodguys is this weekend so i won't be working on it sat.

- Adjust the doors to open and close better
- Figure out why the oil pressure, speedometer and tach are working. Should be a easy fix and recalibrating the gauges
- paint the gauge holder, and ac vents gloss black
- Install front and rear glass
- Install front and rear trim
- Remount the vintage air unit and plug in
- Flash the ecu with the pcm of nc dual fan patch
- find a spot to mount the ecu
- Break the car in
- Recheck everything on the car and alignment
- Send seats out to get redone after i wipe the smile off of my face.

so last mondays hail storm causes some damage. Shop windows got busted out and dumped glass all over my car. every body panel has a scratch and the trunk lid has 3 dents in it. I was able to clean out the water but the car will need repainted. When life gives you lemons you make lemonade

so Im debating on coloring matching the bumper and smoothing it, painting the tail panel titanium to match the wheel centers as well and the outside chrome ring and black portion on the tail light titanium since one of the tail lights got scratched as well.

Well I'm finally coming to completion with the insurance company and my car. Should finalize something soon and get the car repainted. When i do I'm going to black out the panel. Heres an example from today.

I also ordered myself a nice H3R hg250r fire HalGuard fire extinguisher after seeing big reds fire. I will have one attached to my seat and another in the left side of my trunk. IM using drakes off road fire mount. Another great piece.

Now I'm debating about getting some fesler door handles and paint the inlay titanium to match the wheels. The other piece of the handle will be polished. sorta like this but instead of matte the insert will be titanium

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c302/icemanrld19/02454502_0.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/icemanrld19/media/02454502_0.jpg.html)

So i used some wrap and i like this look. This was satin. The question is what does everyone recommend as far as painting satin? Just spray satin black and leave it? how would it stand up? Bumper will be back from the chrome shop next week as well

I was thinking Satin black paint and then satin clear would be the best. Any recommendations? Picking the wrong black could really ruin the car. I don't want it flat but i also don't want it glossy.

Did you consider painting it gloss black and then a clear satin wrap over it to see how you'd like it over time? Since it's a smaller area you can always remove or replace the wrap as needed. Just a thought. If you do spray it black just add a satin clear. They make sealants specifically for satin finishes so you can still protect that part.

Randy - I assume Rodney painted the whole car one color... I like this suggestion, I would take it one step further. Leave the rear copper, get a wrap made for the tail panel that is satin black. Done! Then, if you want to go gloss black or change back to copper just peal it off.

i noticed whenever i was working on my car those little courtesy lights can get hot. Little did i know they were burning the sockets. I this on my under dash lights and my doom light so i replaced them with LEDS.

went with these for the doom light
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2YHHZY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and i went with these for the under dash lights. There is already a hole in the dash where your vent handles would come out of. I opened those holes up to fit these lights in there and now the lights are brighter and less heat.

Also anyone else have their rear diff make some noise at lower speeds? I heard a few cars make this clicking noise running the true trac diff.

video coming shortly

if you want to rekey your ignition to match all of your other locks follow these instructions. There's a metal clip inside the cylinder, pop the cover off and you will see 6 springs, take the springs out then you have 6 y shaped clips with diff height notches in them. Take them out and like the notches back up with the new key using a blank lock, take the y clips back out remembering what order in the cylinder and reinstall the springs and cover and your done. Now i have 1 key for my glove box, door locks, trunk and to start my car.

Another option, the new lock "kits" come with all the locks, gaskets, retainers AND are all keyed alike!

I enjoy re-keying, I learned it from my father, but in the case, especially if a few could use replace, the new set makes sense and is not very expensive.

ride height almost perfect for my liking. Front end bounce alittle so eventually ill upgrade the front coil overs as well

After goodguys i decided to change this up.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c302/icemanrld19/before.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/icemanrld19/media/before.jpg.html)

Started by making coil pack boxes and placing the coil packs on the subframe. They are stacked two high. Wires are ran behind the headers and between the engine mounts and subframe.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c302/icemanrld19/coil%20packs.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/icemanrld19/media/coil%20packs.jpg.html)

Which lead to this look
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c302/icemanrld19/after%201.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/icemanrld19/media/after%201.jpg.html)

After searching my ass off for some 19156430 valve covers that are discontinued i found a set at a dealership in houston. SO now I'm here. Trying to decide to leave it alone or paint the letters to color match my car. Thoughts?

Either way will look good. I love that picture in front of the garage. Do you remeber what that top radiator hose was from or a part number?

It could go either way, but I think it's perfect as is.

Well after looking at the rules there are no rules for speed. You just can't pass the pace car. Next time we are really going to get on it since I was a rookie and didn't know what I could get away with

Accessories are corvette with kwik ac bracket
