So, its been awhile as I have been busy with my new son and house renos, but heres something that has been going on at HPI. For those who know about the "other" fastback we are building, that is going to be a different thread! (That car is coyote powered, and is the mule for our new Mustang chassis that we are developing!)
This is a more toned down mustang build!
So its a 67, getting a throttle body injected 347 stroker backed by a T5. The car is riding on TCP suspension, and has a whole lot of subtle mods. All the goodies like Vintage air, Ricks stainless tank, Custom exhaust, shaved firewall, custom vents and spoiler, and so on and so on. It will all follow in pictures!

The body came from Florida, and we had to do a fair amount of sheet metal replacement, inlcuding floor patches, drip rails, quarters, wheel lips, firewall, wiper cowl, rear window lip, trunk floors, and quarter extensions. We also made quarter panel end caps to eliminate the pot metal seamed piece.
We made custom brake styling scoops, but unfortunately the body shop that was to paint the car cut them out and sent them home in a box for us, replacing it with their own. Unfortunately, their own version looks like 68 shelby scoops, and the car is a 67. I liked ours better, but whatever. Needless to say, they didnt paint the car, and we had to shoot the engine bay and chassis so we could carry on !!! We also made a custom spoiler, and put a sheet metal shelby tail light panel on.

We made a roll bar that fits a little nicer than a shelby style bar, it is arched to match the roof and the down bars are arched to match the interior panels!
It is just a "show bar" due to the arching, but it is on 6x6 plates like its supposed to be..... the shelby bar just bolted into the roof bracing so this should do!

We put TCP suspension in front and rear. Nice stuff, but we had to modify the rear suspension to fit.

The color that the car is going to be is Ford White Chocolate. We shot the engine bay that color already. The dash and all the accessories are being done in charcoal mist, and we are doing a charcoal stripe on the bottom of the car.

The wheels the customer supplied us with don't fit........ :willy: so now its up to us to pick something with a bit more.......um style? I can only go with a 9.5 and 285's out back, we didnt mini tub it. After we did all the metal they came out with the new mustang minitub stampings.
Go figure!

What did you have to do in the rear to get the TCP to fit?
64pontiac
06-25-2011, 09:27 PM
Bryce, to get the TCP rear suspension to fit we had to modify the mounting flanges where it meets the frame rails. We had virgin rails without rust or twist, and it didnt seem to fit.
Also, they make it a "bolt in" but once you weld on the side plates, it becomes permanently captured in there, making the bolt in feature useless/irrelevant? So we modified it to make it a true bolt in, therefore if the customer ever desires it can be removed in the future.
The graverobbers tubs look like they will be nice pieces to use!

A couple of updates:
Customer had found an oldschool fiberglass teardrop hood. Problem was it was over 4 inches tall in the middle, so we cut it down and are re-glassing it.

We ended up adding a front valance, as the fiberglass shelby style front valance was too "overdone"? on the mustangs.... sorry Bryce didnt mean anything by that, I meant on the mustang not a falcon!
Did a nice little spoiler that carries into the wheel arch...... turned out nice.
The lower bead rolls were and afterthought...... never see them anyways! Trying to stay on a budget on this one!

Off to paint!!!! These wheels are not the ones that are going to be on the car when its done......... Customer had them previously but are not the right offset for this build.

There will be a ton of extra parts available after this one is done! I will try and do a classified add later if your looking, just wait for the post in classifieds
Looking great Tyler!

So we are trying to finish up some projects that have been hanging around for awhile, and the 67 is on the top of the list.
Since it has come back from paint, we have been getting the drivetrain and mechanical in. Had issues with the engine/engine builder but seem to have all that straightened out. The color on the car is Ford White Chocolate, its a tri stage.

Wwe decided to go with a retrotek efi throttle body, so we added a pump mount to the tank.

The firewall never had all the holes welded up, as originally alot of stock style stuff was going back in, so we had to come up with a way to cover all the holes.
The lokar gas pedal mount was thrown out and we made a new firewall cover there. Also, we went to a hydraulic throwout bearing so we made a plate to mount the wilwood master and cover the factory wiring holes
http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb407/HPIcustoms/Euphoria%20Mustang/IMG_6484.jpg
This plate covers up two wire holes and provides a spot for the power feeds for the efi throttle body.

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb407/HPIcustoms/Euphoria%20Mustang/IMG_6568.jpg
We went with a different color scheme than the typical cobra valve covers and air cleaner to try and pull the suspension powdercoating, dash color, and the red msd cap and wires into the white.
http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb407/HPIcustoms/Euphoria%20Mustang/IMG_6759.jpg
Oh and the booster had to be rebuilt to work around the hydraulic clutch master.....

First of all I love your project. Im a huge mustang fan and im doing a 65 Coupe right now. I like your out of the box thinking. Im tired of all the aftermarket mustangs looking the same because the same 3 parts are available to everyone. So awesome job! My real question is how did you make the side scoop alteration. I tried to get a pretty good fab guy to do that exact thing to mine about a month ago and they tried but cant find a way to do it with out making the spike be separate from the body instead of molded and seamless?
64pontiac
12-30-2011, 12:43 PM
Thanks for the compliments! To answer your question: We fabricated two "boxes" to weld in where the chrome insert normally would be, then flush welded the spear into the quarter and door skin.
Unfortunately, those got cut out by a sabatuer body shop (yes the same guy that left us with a mess on the RS-V, they went at the same time) and replaced with basically a 68 style scoop. We pulled the car and sent it to a new shop, but our work was already removed and the customer couldn't afford for us to do it over again, despite him wanting it.

So we've got the Mustang back now.
They said that a vacuum booster and a hydraulic clutch could never work on this Mustang with OEM firewall mounting points... But we did it.
If you're looking to upgrade your brake master and brake booster on your 60's Mustang with a hydraulic clutch... We can do it for you. Remember, you saw it first here from HPI Customs so be sure to contact us if you're interested in this upgrade.

hey like what you have done with the fastback.
I have a 1967 I am working on. I would like to know what serpentine belt set up you have? I am looking to be running the krc pump to go with my tcp rack and like the idea of alternator on passenger side with a.c compressor below it.
Could you tell me who make it and possibly part #?
if you have any other pics of that set up it would be cool.
I am also running the TCP rear g bar and will be having to figure exhaust out as well.
thanks Mike

What kind of brake booster is that? I've got a coyote in my 67 and its set back quite a bit, trying to figure out a pedal assembly/booster setup
Also, what kind of exhaust tips are those?
thanks!

How do you like the Powerjection III?
64pontiac
02-02-2015, 12:17 PM
We don't like the Powerjection. It was bought around 6 years ago when the car was starting out as a home project for the customer, and there was less options at the time. It is way too basic for my liking. It has its issues. I would highly recommend the Terminator setup from holley, with the MSD atomic a close second. I have yet to use the new EZ EFI 2.0, but the 1.0 fell into the same category as the Powerjection for me.... The edelbrock is an EZ 1.0, with the added bonus of a cheap tablet as far as I can tell.
