Don't know why it has taken me so long to register over here, this is a great site, and I've been lurking on it since its inception :D

I figure a few of you guys know me from over on PT.com, but for those of ya that don't, the names Derek. just graduated from UIC here in chicago with a degree in Architectural Engineering, and a minor in Structural Engineering and German. Project Black Sunshine is basically my rendition of a Typhoon/custom/Sport Truck. it was a bone stock 1991 S10 4x4(manual on the floor 4x4, not push button) with a 4.3 V6 and a 700-R4 automatic

Engine and Drivetrain mods: its getting an LT-1 with a 383 conversion kit come this spring (too damn cold to work on it now, not to mention its sitting in my brother's shop) AWD transfer case pirated out of a Bravada and rebuilt with a stronger chain to handle the power. 700-R4 that is also being rebuilt, though eventually I wouldn't mind a 4L60. already had 3.42 front and rear, so for the time being those will stay in place. front end is getting beefier halfshafts, as well as a new driveshaft (stock will not mate to the borg warner 4472 AWD transfer case) also both ends will be getting drive shaft loops

Body and Suspension: this is the best part, because my brother owns a custom body shop out in Crete (where the truck currently is) I have access to all the tools needed for the job. So far we have replaced the front fenders, doors, rocker panels, tailgate, front bumper and grille, as well as added a sir michaels roll pan to the rear. 92 caddy tail lights have also been added to the roll pan, as well as filler panels to the stock tail light location. the front end has recieved a bravada grille, with a shaved Olds emblem, the front bumper now has Ford Explorer driving lights flanking the liscense plate location, shaved antenna, and a one off ram air hood (looks kind of like a Olds W-30 hood) no paint as of yet as the body work is still being done.
The suspension as of right now consists of BellTech torsion bar keys in the front to drop it 3", Typhoon Torsion Bars(stronger than stock 4x4), and poly graphite bushings. The rear simply consists of the stock leaf springs with bell tech lowering blocks for the time being. Future mods include hotchkis sway bars front and rear, custom upper and lower tubular control arms with exterior mounted coil-overs, and possibly a 4-link for the rear (still trying to design one properly)
the brakes will be done soon as well, looking at SSBC disc brakes with a dual master cylinder for the truck, as it has front discs and rear drums currently.
the wheels and tires are going to be Bose Stingers 18x8F and 18x10R running michillens at 255 40s and 295 40s respectively. the interior is also custom but no where near finished. I will post pics for all to make fun of as soon as possible. adios for now.

haha, and here I thought you guys might comment on the truck...hahaha stupid me :D In anycase, Maximum Overdrive is one of the Best "Worst" movies of all time. right up there with Cobra, and Six string Samurai.
So how does the truck sound to you guys? :willy:

What do you think your truck will weigh with the LT1 in it? I'd say that's going to be one quick ride the will come out of the hole hard with 4wd and the low 1st of 700r4.

well suprisingly its a fairly heavy truck. even with the pieces im lightening up, it still will weigh roughly between 3700 and 3800 lbs, and thats going to be close to 4000 with me driving :D actually the LT1 alone will not make to much difference to the overall weight of the truck. as I'm sure most of you already know, the 4.3 is a sister engine to the 5.7 (minus 2 cylinders). so minus some weight of the engine, but added weight of the beefier front suspension and drivetrain pieces, I'd say the difference will be between 75 to 100lbs from stock. but im going to get the final weight of the truck after its finished.
oh and to let you guys know...in stock trim back in 1999 I ran the truck at the track, ya know for sh!ts and giggles...hahaha 18.07...I need to find the slip to see what the actual speed was i want to say it was around 72mph, but that was almost 6 years ago so... could be wrong. so Im really hoping to make some REAL improvements. the goal is low 13s, and an actual ability to take a turn(used to get light on the passenger side at 48mph hitting the onramps of I-57) eventually. haha well see.

I envision a 4 wheel burnout ala' The Hurst Hairy Olds (remember?) that thing would smoke em all the way down the track, smoke boilin' out of that thing like you was deep frying Automatic Transmission fluid.
