Hey guys wondering if anyone has any insight on what they might be doing if id retain the factory mid 80's ac system and convert to a LS engine? Wondering if i can retain the factory ac in that mid 80's chevy and use a sanden or sd7 compressor? Vintage air doesnt recomend it. Any other options out there?

We did it on the 79 Formula we built with an LS3 and used a SD7 low mounted. The SD7 barely keeps up on high in the Florida summer. If you have a good tight system, not alot of airleaks in the diverter doors, you might be ok with a 508compressor depending on climate.

I purchased a larger version of the 508 from Southern Air (if I recall correctly). Might want to check them out.

Could really be useful if someone knows all the capacities and could summarize them here. Sounds like the SD7 is smaller than the 508 and there is something larger than a 508? -Bob

When I briefly looked into this and a SD7 vs a 508 for my Vintage Air install VA told me that the SD7 is smaller in size and capacity but they overdrive it on their Front Runner system to make up for that and it works well with their system. They did say that a 508 is a little better if I recall but the larger size restricts its use in some cases.

UAC CO4514C If I recall correctly, it is a 10 cubic inch whereas the 508 is an 8 cubic inch. Sanden makes a 510, but I don't think they make a serpentine belt version.
