***Looking to get just what I owe which is roughly 45k. I will contact bank to get exact payoff if interested.***
Up for sale is my 68 Pro-Touring Camaro. I bought this car a little more than a year ago from a forum member. I bought the car sight unseen out of southern Texas. The car was restored in 2011 by the second owner before me. The car sat by the guy that I bought it off of and it sat since I bought it.
When I bought the car it was in the process of getting the big block chevy replaced with a LS3. The former owner was also changing the paint a little and going with a different theme. When I got the car and started to sort it out I realized that there was way more items to either purchase, replace or sort out further. I decided to go with a more traditional paint scheme and change some of the items back.
I lost my job a month after purchasing the car and shortly after started my own business. When I lost my job I was able to take out a loan against the car, so there is a note attached. The lien holder is very easy to work with. As long as I give them 2-3 days in advanced they will have the clean title ready for me to pick up. The only reason why I am considering is to free up the monthly payment and capital tied up in this car. If I do not get offers at or close to my asking price the car will sit. I would rather someone finish it and enjoy it right now.
Here are the details about the car.
It is a 68 Camaro, original 6 cylinder car. It is a 6 speed manual car that has had everything redone or started to be redone.
- Body/Paint, it is hugger orange with white stripes. I did talk with the guy who built the car and the orange has a little more red than the original hugger orange.
- Detroit Speed mini tubs and sub-frame connectors are installed.
- The fire wall has been smoothed and the wiper motor has been hidden in the wiper arm area.
- The trans tunnel has been modified for a T56 6 speed.
- Brand new 2” cowl aluminum hood, new factory hood hinges with correct springs.
- All trim is factory style; I was going to replace some pieces as it does show wear and re-chrome the bumper.
- Brand new Formula 43 S5 wheels. Fronts are 18x9 and rears are 18x12. I replaced the existing wheels with these. They are Sebring silver face with polished lips.
- Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport Super Sport tires and are brand new. The fronts are 275/35-18 and rears are 335/30-18. I have button style bolts for the inner fender wells that are the only thing that rubs. The rears are perfect.
- The front suspension consist of a Detroit Speed hydro-formed sub-framed. It is powder coated black. It will come with DSE factory positioning motor mounts for LS series motors.
- The rear suspension is the Detroit Speed Quadra-Link complete kit
- The rear end is a Detroit Speed torino style Ford 9-Inch rear. It has been shortened and bought at the same time as the suspension. I believe the ring gear is a 3.70, but can check my notes if it needs to be confirmed.
- The Brakes are Baer 6P brakes all around. They feature 6 piston calipers with 14” rotors. The calipers are finished in red with black lettering. I was going to get them custom done in a different color.
- There is a Detroit Speed brake booster that has the appropriate proportioning valve.
- The motor is a brand new LS3 480HP GM crate motor. A brand new Comp Cams cam will come with it. You will need new valve springs and push rods to make this work. This will bump HP to 535HP/520TQ.
- I have a brand new set of Ultimate Headers mirror polish mid-length headers for the LS motor.
- The transmission is a T56 magnum 6 speed. The bell housing is brand new quick time housing.
- Slightly used Center Force dual friction single disk clutch. It is rated at 550 foot pounds of torque.
- Drive shaft has already been shortened and works perfectly with the setup.
- Radiator is Be Cool aluminum with dual fans. It was setup for a big block but will work with the LS3. The top house will just go to a different side.
- The interior has Autometer gauges in the dash and console. There are a total of 6.
- It has a recovered back seat with no wear.
- Factory center console with a DSE shift knob.
- Brand new vintage air a/c kit. The hoses are run through the corner of the passenger side fire wall.
- American autowire complete car rewire kit.
- Ididit tilt steering column with a polished finish.
- Slightly used 5th Gen Camaro fuel pump. Bought from a forum member and I was going to install it in a Ricks/Vaporworx stamped steel tank. This is rated at 650-675HP.
- Flowmaster 3” mufflers with pipes from headers back.
- Detroit Speed battery relo kit
- 3 point seat belts front and rear
I am sure I am missing something so please call me to chat about the car. Below is what is needed to finish the car on its current path.
- New hood needs to be painted, front header panel re-painted, it was chipped. The firewall and passenger inner fender has been marked up and covered with touch paint. There are a few other dings and scratches. I tried to take pics and included them in the ad. I would say the paint is a solid 7.5 out of 10.
- Swap wire harness and complete tune with cam setup.
- Motor needs an oil pan to fit the DSE sub-frame.
- Complete front accessory drive is needed, including the AC compressor to work with Vintage Air kit.
- Flywheel
- Finish exhaust to work with new headers. I have clamps and x-pipe. You can either dump at the rearend or have an exhaust shop finish it out the back. I have a local shop that can mandrel bend piping; one of the best exhausts guys in the state.
- Fuel tank, I would recommend a Ricks/Vaporwox since I have a pump for it.
- Factory trunk pan to replace the current one setup for a fuel cell.
- Starter
- Needs front seats, I was going to put in Recaro’s.
- Front and rear door panels
- Headliner slack taken out, it is hanging a little.
- Front lower kick panels.
- Steering wheel, a cheap Grant one is included, but I do have a new steering wheel mount kit.
- It needs some various odds and ends, bolts, radiator hoses and such.
Depending on the parts/options you choose you would need roughly 5-7k to get it on the road. If you go with a wild ECU setup, front accessory drive then price accordingly.
I am in to the car for around mid-50’s. I am asking $51,000 and pretty firm, but may consider some reasonable offers close to my asking price as I am already losing money. As you can figure the parts alone are well over 50k and that doesn’t count the install on things like the rear suspension, mini tubs, sub-frame connectors, smooth firewall and so on.
I will only accept cash or certified funds. We can work out the details of the money/transfer. I am willing to ship the car however the motor will need to be installed, which we can discuss. I used an extremely reputable shipping company that I would recommend again. From San Antonio to Northern VA they charged me roughly $1750. With this kind of car/build calling me is best. If you do not get me then please text me and I will respond soon. Like I said I do not need to or in a rush to sell this car, so please no low ballers and opinions please keep to yourself. My cell is 703 447 2058 or email at [email protected].
