Went to Canepa this weekend for cars and coffee with the Pantera
group... finally got to see the #3 917/30 Porsche that Donahue
won the Championship in 1973... last time I saw it was on the Track
at Laguna in 1973... Car has not run for many years now... they
are going to get it running for the Porsche event next month at Laguna
He also has one of the 25 917's types that ran the 24 hours of Le Mans.. I thing Bruce
is asking 20 mil for that one:)

I was at the races back then but not in the winners
circle.. way cool stuff.. I wrench for my buddy that has
a Lola t160.. in rebuild mode right now... and standing on
grid with all these Monsters firing up and moving towards
the hot pits is quite a ground shaking experience..
Shadow cars are one of my favorites
Will be at the Historics this weekend with
my Pantera group to see the F1 cars
and of course the Trans Am cars

Cool stuff, Bob! I got to see some Can-Am cars (on track) for the first time a couple months back at the Wine Country Classics event at Sonoma. Those are definitely some earth-shaking cars! On some level, maybe since I didn't actually exist during the Can-Am/Trans-Am era, I was a bit more drawn to the '70s-/'80s crazy turbo Porsche 911-like things that were out there, along with the vintage stock cars . . .
I'll have to get to the reunion at Laguna one of these years . . .

The car is amazing, I saw it at Road America a couple years ago where they had a Mark Donohue car reunion. Even cooler that the Original International Penske Race car Hauler that towed it around the country was there too! I have pictures of it somewhere:thumbsup:

That's the FIA Homolagation Picture. They were supposed to make 50 Examples in order to race. Most of these are mock-ups to fool the FIA. Porsche typically would use 2 or 3 Factory entries at a Race, then go to different Chassis the next race and sell off the used cars to privateers. Eventually they made short tails, long tails, Wide version (the Pink Pig) and then some of them had the Tops cut off to make InterSeries or Can-Am cars.
The 917-10 & 917-30 Cars are different
