wondering if anyone has experience with mast motorsports? thinking about the 600 road and track engine for my pro touring build of '72 firebird. will have chassisworks subframe and rear. would like a competent road course and xcross car a few times a year but mostly street car.
i like higher rpm engine than low end torque. this engine is supposed to go to 7000 rpm.
really wondering about the expense vs a gm crate motor.
thanks

Not so much with their engines, but I do run their electronics, and I will say that their customer service is top shelf.
As far as their engines/components go, they are constantly at the top of the charts in speed and/or power records.
I actually spoke with Damon today concerning a remote tune.

I'm not sure on the cost differences, but Ron Sutton's got some pretty impressive engine packages and you can trust his expertise and the people he works with.
I've never worked with Mast, but I heard two stories on this forum. One guy had a problem and it seemed like they did a good job taking care of him. Another guy, not so much. The difference, it seemed to me was that guy #1 had a shop and some presence on the forum, guy #2 was just a regular joe, didn't get as much attention to his problem.
But like I said, I haven't worked with them and anecdotal stories from the internet are not worth much. Ron works hard to be available for you but he has distractions too.

I'd also take a look at Don Hardy Race Engines. Don, Jr is an exceptional guy. His work is known as several people on this forum has bought his engines. Even the Roadster Shop has used his engines in their Craftsman C10 build. I bought an LS3 from him that's sitting in my garage for my C10 and believe this or not, he personally delivered it to Dallas for me, as he was on his way here to handle some business matters. I've also bought several engine items for my LS7 from him. He's just an all around good guy.

All of the above options are great choices! Mast Motorsports has a great reputation and shops like Detroit Speed use them regularly, not just on customer builds but also their test cars which have been dominating the scene.

I'm on my SECOND Don Hardy Jr motor..... in my hot rods.
And my new race car is a Ron Sutton Race Technologies 700 hp LS7 built by Scoggins-Dickey Custom shop.
Think about the end result you want to achieve. A street motor with impressive power numbers might not be a good motor to run a road course for a couple seasons with....

I run the Mast Motorsports Controller on my LSX454. Whenever I have a issue with it, I hook it up to my laptop to it call their tech service, they take over my laptop and help me resolve the issue. They have also spent some time educating me on how to do it myself.

Hi Everyone,
I'll chime in and add my 2¢.
If you're building a car that will see primarily street ... and operate in the 2000-3500 rpm most of it's life ... and operate above 4000, up to 7000 a couple times a year ... I'd suggest Mast or Lingenfelter. They will work great & cost you less.
If you're building or running a car that will autocross 10+ times a year ... and/or run on track days 10+ times a year, where it will see 2000-7000 rpm a lot ... a whole lot ... I'd recommend one of my engines.
My engines cost more than Mast & Lingenfelter, because we build them with better, stronger & more expensive parts throughout. We build them to handle high rpms & hard use weekend after weekend & live. If you want to read why & how our engines are built to shine in autocross & track days, read HERE (http://www.ronsuttonracetechnology.com/catalog/?page=304).
Thanks & take care !

I'll start a build thread about Track Warrior Builds ... including Greg's ... when I can carve out a little time. It's been crazy busy since the launch of our new catalog.

Hope that means business is booming Ron. You'll be tired from all of the hustle and bustle, as they say. But, that's a good thing. The market/industry needs a person like yourself.

That's not funny. That's hilarious. I'm working more now than ever.
But the plan includes moving into a new shop & bringing more staff on soon. After they get up to speed in a few months, I'm hoping to work "normal" hours. Whatever that is.

"Normal" hours mean you'll go from 12-16 hours that you're probably doing now to 6-8 hours in the new shop, only to go home and be on 24 hr call, 7 days a week for the manager.

I have run Mast Motorsports engines in two of my cars with great success.
My C5 Z06 has their Black Label 427 that makes 687 HP and revs to 7200 RPM with ease. Tons of power from 3000 - 7200 rpm. This is a full time autocross and road course car for the past 2 1/2 years.
My 1973 Camaro has a 416 LS3 that makes 611 HP that I run to 7200 RPM. I have run this motor since 2010 and never been apart. This car has over 1500 hard driven autocross and road course miles on it. That is 7 years of autocross and road course events. The engine runs perfect.
These Mast Motorsports engines are far more than a part time autocross engine.

Brian, I can't recall... is your LS3 wet or dry sump? Any Accusump if wet?
Thanks

Wet sump. Autokraft oil pan. No issues with oil pressure, ever.

I'm partially there. I'll trade you my ls3 480 for yours. Already had a autokraft oil pan. I'll add a oil filter and oil . You know you want less hp so it's a perfect time to trade
