Ended up buying the BrandMotion, from Summit. I saw the Voxx one at Sema last year, it's really trick... though $800'ish. I might have talked myself into spending that stupid money on a rearview mirror but just couldn't get them to send me any details of the entire product, I gave it a 30 day effort.
The BrandMotion stuff looks good on screen, so I'll set it up and see how it works and looks in real life. Will follow up in a few weeks.

I'm looking into a system as well for my car. I haven't checked into prices yet, but the mirror system in my truck uses the mirror, coax cable, and the third brake lamp mounted camera in a stand alone system. It only needs power and ground to work based off the schematics.

I did a pretty thorough temp install in my truck. The quality of the mirror, camera and all of the wiring and controller were top notch. Set up was easy and a lot of functionality. Very stable image and I really like the front camera and the security features.
That all said, it just didn't work as well as I'd hoped. The mirror/screen becomes confusing because there are competing images. The video from the camera is certainly more promenant than the image that is reflected from the mirror but it's just not clear enough.
It's real close. Truth be told.......might also just be my old-@ss eyes.

John, I have a reversing camera being used as blind spot camera cos I'm left hand drive in a right hand drive environment...daily driven 68 Camaro has bad-enough blind spot but in my situation it's MASSIVE.
The camera is mounted at the rearmost edge of my right side quarter window and focused approx 45* rearward for cars sitting beside me blocking lane-change. Also useful for parking.
My screen is stand alone monitor type not built into mirror.
Getting to your issue.........
My first screen install was below the exist factory mirror but the problem there is that you have to adjust your focus non-intuitively because the image is 18" away from you (like suddenly looking at your radio dial), whereas in a regular mirror you are still focused at 50 feet ......the same as looking forward thru windshield....no change in focus.
I found that mounting the screen in the top right of the windshield as far away as possible solved the "old-a$$" eye problem. Yeah, I'm in my 60's.
My screen is mini-tv shape so looks ok where it is.
You have an OE MIRROR shape that will look odd mounted in that top corner.
Temporarily relocate your BrandMotion mirror to the far end of the truck crash pad with tape and go for a drive you'll see an improvement.
.....hmmmmmm....I've solved the focus issue for you but ran out of talent right there!
BTW......I've been following your fiberglass development projects....YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS!! ...nice work tho.

It helps that the window is polycarbonate....slot cut underneath for cables

Thanks. That’s pretty neat. I’ve been looking at something similar but forward facing to put in my rh mirror just to see if anything is coming close before poking the car out.
Don’t expect it to be legal or how good it’ll work but can’t hurt. Being low & lhd used to be hard to see around even a Corolla when I last had it on the road unless I ran wide over the fog line.

You mean this Corolla? I can't believe how low a Camaro can be.....
I think forward-facing would be REALLY sketchy cos the wide angle lens means that the oncoming car is so small that u can't focus small enough at 100m, and by the time u reacted it's too late. The image is not very clear at a distance either but prolly enough to see if there's something there.
My situation means that the blind spot car is traveling at the same speed so not changing size so quick in the screen. I can try it for you right now by rotating my camera to go supermarket shopping. I'll let u know.
Hang back a bit is the only way I think.
Also when making a left turn at intersection where there's a left turn triangle....go straight ahead as close to the concrete triangle so that you are almost square to the upcoming roadway and not 45*.

NO, NO.......and NO.
I'm still cross-eyed from the experience. U can see the white Corolla (yes another freakin Corolla....neighbor's car) is so tiny in the monitor. And that's both cars stationary from 15 meters!!
Moving is impossible to work out what ur looking at till the oncoming car has gone past.

Haha yeah basically like that one. It’s surprising how low they are when you’re in them.
I wasn’t sure it’d work. Was just an idea to be able to see an object before moving over the centre line. Corolla was just one I remember thinking wow, even that’s a pain. At least you could see around them depending wheee you placed the car. Trucks were another issue again.
Thanks for the vision anyway! I’ve got the screen & wiring there. Just need to find a suitable camera then put it in the mirror & put the glass back on
