I looked at the car today and talked him down to $1400.. The front clip is good, doors are good just surface rust, the trunk lid is good but the trunk floor is bad and the front floors are bad. It looked like quarter skins were put on before and I asked him about it. He said the car was completely restored and ready for paint about 10 years ago and then his uncle went to jail(his car) and I guess it just sat. But guess what the original color was guys. :woot: You guys think I should go for it? It needs ALOT of work, but I think I might be able to handle it, I mean, it's a B5 blue Challenger! http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/8528/1000724o.jpg http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/3061/1000725b.jpg http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7083/1000726bw.jpg http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9799/1000727m.jpg http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/1734/1000729b.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4613/1000739r.jpg http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/5159/1000744r.jpg http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/4576/1000747.jpg http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/8822/1000749r.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/9025/1000750.jpg http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/1157/1000753f.jpg http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/7959/1000755y.jpg http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/5015/1000757d.jpg |
My...... I really had to "digest" those photos....
Okay -- I'm trying to watch a show on Speed - and "think" at the same time. What to say here... being positive - and being "practical" - and being helpful in a couple different ways. Great show btw -- "The Beast".... This car - whether you can get it for Free - or for $2000 or somewhere in-between... really the price means nothing - it's the difference between buying something on Ebay and paying 25 Grand for it only to find out you have a bondo wagon... and knowing / seeing what you're taking on. This car - even at $1500 is pretty "cheap" on a purely financial basis... and frankly - you're just not going to get much of ANY car for that kind of money. That being said... it's really more what your budget can stand to fix. That would be my #1 concern - given your age and not really knowing much about YOU - forgetting the car. Do you have the DRIVE... Time... $$$ this project is going to take? Would you learn from it.... is it the kind of car you want to put your hard work and hard earned money into (I think yes - it's the right style/brand/year etc)... But are you willing to be REALISTIC regarding just what you're chewing off here? Do you have a place that this car can be worked on for the next 3 years? Do you - and can you - afford to INVEST in the tools that will be required? Do you have friends/relatives that are willing to help on a moments notice? You're going to need help... helping hands... knowledge... advice... and lots of small hand tools - and a good welder -- and on and on... |
I hope some other guys jump in here...
Here's some thoughts - and I'm going to miss some steps here... Got to get it home Get it stripped down to bare body Build a cart for it Get it blasted to clean metal Assess what panels need to be ordered Lay out a plan of what should be done first While waiting on parts - start bead blasting - cleaning protecting - bagging and labeling small parts to be reused. Ascertain what is NOT there and where to get them. Build a realistic $ budget and time budget Pick up a tool - and start working... |
I agree with Greg on all of the concerns and thoughts about what it will take. If you are confident you can handle the financial and time requirements to do this then I think you should get it. But think it through and be sure of what you are getting into. I think it would be a great learning experience but it will take a lot of commitment on your part. That car has a ton of potential in the right hands. And the B5 blue does look great!
Greg, was it the show on Eric Banon you were watching? That was a great documentary IMO. Right up to where he crashed that Falcon. But at least it is going to be rebuilt. |
Yeah Eric -- the Australian actor guy...
When you go fast - sometimes bad shizzell happens... LOL Personally -- if he (Trey) can handle it - this is the better car of the three that he's shown... there's just not much that beats an E body Mopar IMHO... |
