Okay I am a little cranky this morning so I probably shouldn't be responding.
So lets save another car and park it in a garage, museum or a warehouse so when you die the next idiot can do exactly the same. Screw it drive it like you stole it and if there is anything left so be it. There is one thing that is certain and it is death. I would hate to be on my death bed and say, "Man I wish I would have driven my Challenger" |
YOU TELL EM CRIS!!!!!!!!!:warning: :D Now keep cutting!!!

We are just hoping the car will be a contender.. The road coarse is where we need some help in dialing in a car.. but we are close.. That is why I am bringing Brian Hobaugh in to help us dial in the car for that.. He is one of the guys I trust with any of our builds to drive on the road coarse.. Lots of things can go wrong their.. but Brian is one hell of a driver.. Quote:

Now I got to go back to cutting.. Quote:

Can you reproduce some of the factory assembly line paint markings just to piss people off a little more. That would be awesome.
Is this car getting a full cage? I'm a little curious on the choice to have subframe connectors that appear contoured to use the sheet metal floor as the top side, yet have such a massive cross member at the B-Pillar. I didn't fully read back through the plan so I'm probably just missing something. Also, what's the plan for the interior? chop chop! |

TAD in Florida did received the same grief when he modified a 69 Hemi Cornet R/T. http://tomarguedesign.com/gallery/?album=4&gallery=88 But in the end everything he did just like this car can be brought back to original. The car went from a garage ornament to a very capable driver. It's guys like Chris that push the envelope and make these old cars safer for us to drive today. :king: |
The car will not be getting a full cage @ this time.. We will determine next year what the future enhancement will be for the car.. For the time being it will be daily driven & Autocrossed with testing on the road course.. We are trying to establish right now which will be Karl’s road course for the future.. & that one will get a full cage..
The interior will be stock panels with rear seat delete.. Sparco race seats with steering wheel, Fire system.. What else.. Oh! “CUP HOLDERS” Here is what the underside structure looks like.. The Challenger has torque boxes just like a Mustang… I am really starting to favorite this type of design.. I can really tie in a chassis into the rocker panel & add some rigidity to structure of a car.. We have about 4.50 inches of ground clearance & everything is sucked underneath the car… Nothing hangs below the frame rails.. Please excuse the welding not being clean.. That will be done when the car gets disassembled & undercoated.. Trying not to waste any time.. Car need to be in the body shop late next week.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...psd233f235.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...pscfcd7112.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...ps89583498.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...psefe87f2e.jpg Quote:

I don't care much for the engine, but then I don't much like make to make interbreeding like this regardless of the project.
I am a bit surprised at cutting up a V code car. Not from the purity stand point necessarily because this just increased the value of the remaining cars, but from a financial standpoint it doesn't make much sense to me. Even if it was sold at a fire sale price of $60k, which would have moved this thing in days, you could buy a Dynacorn body for $13k and have $47k for the rest of the build. Heck for that matter, you can buy complete, equivilent 72-74 E bodies for $8k and save even more and get all the detailed doo-dads for a build. The front end treatment would be no big deal either since it looks like it was all replaced with fiberglass anyway. Since its not my car, it guess it doesn't really matter much what I think though. |
Lets look @ some realistic #'s
A Dynacorn body for 13K.. What about all the glass, regulators, dash pcs, trim for the glass, roof rail trim, door latches, locks & a hell a lot more components.. Plus take into consideration that a dynacorn body does not fit panels very well ... The fabrication time to fit & gap.. Body work & paint.. Have you priced a paint job lately? From a financial stand point.. A Dynacorn body was not a option... Buying a 8k rollor car.. don't know what you are gonna get till you start peeling layers of the car apart... I can tell you horror stories of cars that have come in here that 40K was paid.. to tear the car apart and find layer of body filler or panels that were repaired with fiberglass filler.. Body panels replaced body work & paint.. it all adds up... This car had a decent foundation for us to start.. & in the long run it will save some money on the build... Quote:
