Amazing looking build Mark Looks absolutely killer. I bet it handles and sounds just as good as it looks.

Rybar 04-14-2010 11:11 AM

Looks killer Mark, your attention to detail is top notch

So what's this cars name anyways? It can't be Blue Bomber as the car is red? Or is it Apex? Anyways, I can't wait to see this car vs Jackass

I think I've told you this a million times, but your builds were definately a huge inspiration for mine.

It looks like a nice part and a buddy told me Lingenfelt uses them on there car. He could be wrong.

The part looks good. I modified it to take -10 AN fittings the 1" ports looked a bit clunky.

Stielow

I reduced the ports to a 3/8" / LS standard push-on hose. Since I was not sure how much oil would be accumulated, I was not spending the bucks. MH suggests using them on big diesels so perhaps they need that large of a port.

It's used in the Porsche world as well. For many its appearance is a bit too OE, but from a functional and service standpoint, it's worlds better than any other.

Hey Mark, Im a young guy who started reading about you and your builds in high school. When I read about the type of cars you build, I knew thats the type of cars I wanted to build. Then when I read about what you did for a living it also inspired me. I'm now in college majoring in mechanical engineering. Im working on a 71 camaro right now that I hope to have finished by the Optima Street Car Challenge in hopes of driving it there to see you compete. You build some awesome cars, and good luck.

Good luck with engineering school. I started GM as a summer intern working for the Camaro race program. I was very lucky. But, engineering school was the key to me working in the industry I'm in now.

Hope your 71 gets done. Hope to see you at Optima.

Wow, thanks Mark for taking time out of your busy schedule to respond. Yes working as an intern, and then a job with GM would be a dream. I hope I'm so fortunate. Thanks for the motivation! Now I have to get to work!

To Die For

As my wife would say your car (whatever the name will be) "Is To Die For!" Since you'll be spending a good deal of time on the track as have your past few cars, inevitable getting rock chips, etc. I'm curious, do you like to use a base/clear, or do you prefer a single stage urethane?

Bill

HI-JACK..
But if you mix a little color with the last coat of clear your chips will not show up as easily.

I think Mark has done a few of his cars with single stage. We used Standox bc/cc on this car. As far as durability I feel not really an issue because Standox paint gets really hard once cured out. Doing an bc/cc makes up keep easier and in long run IMO paint will hold up better. I've done the add color to clear thing but that only applies to single stage and need's to be solid color too. :) Joe

Mark it blows my mind how talented you are. You continue to raise the bar. GM should make you exec of their performance division.

Yes, Mark I have a Camaro history-type book that mentions your name as an eager, young engineer taking charge of the 3rd Gen 1LE program!!

dirtybird 05-10-2010 12:14 PM

in the age of over the top builds. it's great to see thoughtful well engineered projects being built and driven. and for me that's what it's all about. :lateral:

Mark,

Looks like you already have the intake figured out but here is a trick part from Ligenfelter. Just something for the hopper.

It has been good to be back in the shop.

I hope to have some more photos this weekend.

Anyone have an opnion on "New" door and quarter glass. Do it all fit well?

Mark

My 67 glass came from Auto Glass city in MN. and it fit really well, everyone asks me where it came from because it looks so good. I might have just gotten lucky though. It is the smoked glass. I think Frank at Prodigy is selling the same brand of glass. Mine is 67 stuff and may have its differences. I did have to reinstall it and glue it in on the bottom channel after finding out too late that the rain storm I got caught in lubricated the press fit enough for it to come loose. I would have never had a problem if I hadn't driven it in the rain as it was up and down hundreds of times and never had a problem. As you probably already know the new stuff is just a bit thinner.

The car looks great and I look forward to seeing you at Gingerman.

Stielow 05-25-2010 05:16 AM

Back from Korean Sheez.....

Well I've been to Korea 3 times in two months... So my project had slowed a lot. Well I'm back and thrashing to make Gingerman.

After a lot of tries I think I may have a name I like for the "Blue Bomber" after Joe painted it red. It is a throw back to the code name we had for the ZR-1 when it was in development (Blue Devil) So I think I will call this car "Red Devil"!

We have made good progress on the car. Here are few photos..

We made a CAD file of the "7.0 L" then CNC the logo out of aluminum. We then pocket milled the cover to sink in the emblem. A little paint and body work and your done!

Mark,

I did an international fireworks competition in Seoul (Han river)... our crew was stuck out there in the middle of the river on barges... so the local contacts would ferry food out to us for lunch etc. Most of what they brought out had lips and whiskers. LOL

I actually like some of the kimchi...

Stay away from the cold jelly fish soup...

Have you learned to do the "long drop"??

tones2SS 05-25-2010 07:26 AM

Man, that is awesome looking.
Love the recessed trunk idea. Very nice looking car Mark!

Bow Tie 67 05-25-2010 07:37 AM

The trunk is not recessed, he added tunnels for the exhaust.

Looking good, I like the name  , you better make Gingerman I want to say I shared a track with the latest Stielow car. :D

Cris@JCG 05-25-2010 07:49 AM

Awesome work Mark! Can't wait to see this one complete

waynieZ 05-25-2010 09:50 AM

The car looks beautiful. Thanks for posting the pictures and ideas it will help a lot of us raise the quality of our builds with idea's we might not have thought of.
Awesome work.

Rybar 05-25-2010 01:11 PM

Awesome again Mark, new name suits it much better.

I will be at Gingerman along with Dr. Lillard and Jackass

I need to get this thing done and see what it will do. I have a 4 day week end I hope to get it fired up. Still have a lot of wiring to do and finish the ABS wiring. Gingerman was a blast last year so my plan is to be there.

Sales@Dutchboys 05-25-2010 05:45 PM

The car looks killer Mark! looking forward to gingerman!

Hmmm It likely will be a one, two sweep ............ I would be elated with a third place finish again. If I can cure the limp mode problem I might have a chance at third. Two bad we cant run R compound like last year, Oh well at least Charlie will get his auto-x fix.

GregWeld 05-25-2010 07:31 PM

DOCTOR Lillard?

Really?

Hey Charley... I have a rectal issue I need you to look at...
