It's their Stainless Version and yep door bars and harness bar has been ordered

Rick D 08-04-2012 04:51 PM

Nice, Marty are you sure that Scott didn't put some weights in the box when you weren't looking!!

Does Ride Tech make the cage in mild steel? I thought it was only SS?

To the best of my knowledge SS only

Syclone892 08-05-2012 02:52 PM

Marty the project is looking great! Hopefully I will get to see this project in finished form before it gets sold, unless your keeping this one for a while :)

I wish I could do a big project like this and be able to take pics etc like you do! I tried for a little while with the sy but always got sidetracked just working on it.

I am looking at getting the ridetech rear 4-link for the sy so hopefully it will be ready for some autocross/ road racing action!
Keep up the good work

syborg tt 08-09-2012 08:15 PM

Hay Dave how the heck are you ? I saw pictures of your Dad's Ty from the Power tour.

The goal is to keep this project and not sell it like the Truck. However if there is a good offer I can always build another one.

2nd Chance Camaro - Tiger Cage Install Part 2

2012 08-09 Update - 2nd Chance Camaro - Tiger Cage Install Part 2
www.2ndchancecamaro.com

Good Evening all,

Installing the Tiger cage is fairly easy. I was able to install the complete cage in about 4 hours. However, I did
need a helper to finish tightening some of the supplied hardware

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9b78d46-me.jpg

The hoop mounts into the floor brackets which self align for easy drilling.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...dba9b2d-me.jpg

The down bars attach through the package tray.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6c2e0b6-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9574886-me.jpg

Quick look at the finish of the down bar.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ea6f19c-me.jpg

The down bars attach to the trunk floor. I used the frame rail spot welds as a guide to line up the bolt holes.
Make sure you line this up perfectly so it hits the flat part of the frame rails. I used a right angle drill with a
1/8 drill to make sure I hit the frame rail perfectly.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...04fb815-me.jpg

You can see that the bolts hit there mark perfectly. I also had to get tweak the floor just a little bit.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f9897ae-me.jpg

Finishing off the cage I once again enlisted the help of one of my daughters. I also found the perfect use for an
old cotton shower curtain. It makes a perfect blanket for my daughter to lay on.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...052138b-me.jpg

You can see Ride-Tech did a perfect job when designing the Tiger cage. The main hoop is in perfect alignment
with the "B" pillar.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ec4760b-me.jpg

Harness bar installed.

Marty thanx for the great write up and nicely positioned pics. I've been eyeballing this for mine. I really like what your doing with this thread in terms of bolt ons.

P.s, if you dont mind me askn, how much better are you feeling?

X2! A nice piece of workmanship and good work on installing! The cage is a little an the pricey side but looks like it's worth the money.

syborg tt 08-10-2012 03:29 PM

It costs about the same as a weld in cage. The benefit is you can do it yourself in your garage.

Your welcome.

I'm actually feeling really good today. They took the pump off which I have had on since Wednesday. The pump is on me for 46 hours to administer a 2nd drug so I don't have to be in the hospital. Which is a huge bonus

GrabberGT 08-11-2012 08:51 PM

I really like that tiger cage. The road race style door bars are awesome. I wish they made a kit for the Maverick.

JKnight 08-11-2012 10:46 PM

Lookin good Marty. Ok, so this type of cage isn't approved by all of the various sanctioning bodies... but it really does seem to have very secure mounting points in it's design. The Tiger Cage may have its shortcomings, but a well executed design is not one of them.

It does have approval you just need to contact Ride-Tech as my brain doesn't seem to be working this morning

2nd Chance Camaro - Tiger Cage Install Part 3

2012 08-12 Update - 2nd Chance Camaro - Tiger Cage Install Part 3
www.2ndchancecamaro.com

Good Afternoon all,

Even my girls are excited when boxes come from Ride Tech.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9f1fda9-me.jpg

The most important thing is "Do Not Open" the Envelope from Ride Tech. You may order more stuff !!!!!

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...06ec362-me.jpg

Now this is how parts are suppose to be shipped.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...249fa7a-me.jpg

Mounting the side bars is very simple. Locate the brackets on the main hoop and tighten once all hardware is loosely fastened.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...dc198d7-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...611fba8-me.jpg

Still trying to decide if we are going to hide this bracket under the carpet. It's almost to nice to hide.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0944e82-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...77531bb-me.jpg

On forward door bar one of the bolts must come up from the underside of the car.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...60b753a-me.jpg

These are the only tools that you need to install a Tiger Cage after you drill the holes in the floor pan.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9ce46b2-me.jpg

Cage fully installed.

Rick D 08-12-2012 04:36 PM

Very nice job there Marty, love the write up. The cage looks sweet! Question does the Tiger Cage meet any spec's for any racing rules book?? Or is it more of a nice looking bar and some added protection?

Yes it has some approval I just can't remember when. I will send an e-mail to Bret to see certification it meets.

badmatt 08-12-2012 07:47 PM

Looks spectacular Marty!

Im going to try and emulate those road race style door bars into my roll bar for the truck.

2nd Chance Camaro - BBT Firewall Modifications

2012 08-15 Update - 2nd Chance Camaro - BBT Firewall Modifications
www.2ndchancecamaro.com

Evening All,

While the car was at BBT Fab the guys did a little work cleaning up the firewall.

Some of the holes didn't line up when I tried to install the Close Out panel . So I had Troy weld up the existing holes and
installed Nut-Zerts in the firewall. This was also a chance to install his new hardware.

2nd Chance Camaro - BFG 295's on the Rear

2012 09-22 Update - BFG 295's on the Rear
www.2ndchancecamaro.com

Evening all,

Picking the right tires for your car is important, it can make or break the final look . As much as I like the big tire look out back it just doesn't fit with the plan for this car. The goal is to have something that looks very classy and timeless. So the ideal size for this project would be somewhere around 12" wide.

Remember timeless is the goal for this car.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...135a680-me.jpg

What was funny is I asked everyday people what they thought of the tire combo on this car while it was sitting in my garage and everyone
said the same thing.

Looks Perfect !! Not to big, not to small just like the perfect bowl of porridge - Just Right

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6ff04a8-me.jpg

Some of the cool tools that I have laying around from the Syborg TT project is the Wheel Mate. It sure makes test fitting tires easy !!

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4dcd0fd-me.jpg

You can see that there is plenty of clearance using the stock rear spring perches.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...46671c0-me.jpg

Quick look from the rear and you can there is plenty of tire out back.

2nd Chance Camaro - Billet Specialties Mag G Wheels

2012 09-22 Update - Billet Specialties Mag G Wheels
www.2ndchancecamaro.com

Evening all,

Scott from Billet Specialties was kind enough to come over and confirm the backspacing. He also dropped off the test rims to make
sure everything fit as we hoped. Using the stick you can confirm tire clearance when the suspension run's through it's travel.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fe2749a-me.jpg

If your spin the rim you can check for other clearance issue's.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1361ccf-me.jpg

The 2 1/2" on the stick shows upward travel for the rear suspension. You need to make sure that when the tire goes up it doesn't
connect with the inner wheel tubs.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d2adb05-me.jpg

Picture of the rim just after it was finished at Billet Specialties. I can't wait to pick them up and fit them on the car.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3533257-me.jpg

The finished wheel mounted on the car.

2nd Chance Camaro - GTO Rollers

2012 09-23 Update - GTO Rollers
www.2ndchancecamaro.com

Morning all,

Now that the wheels have been chosen it's time to find a set of mock up wheels that will clear the Kore3 brakes. Chad Fletcher told
me about the GTO spares and I was lucky enough to find a few of them. One for the car as a spare and apparently four of them for
Kenny. He told me that I would not be getting them back as he needed them more then I do.

Looking good Marty! I do have to laugh though. I didn't realize 12" rear tires are now considered nothing too wide. I love BFG KDW tires. So aggressive looking and they work so well. Good choice on the rims.
