Any updates on this? I'd love to see how this one is coming along. the interior design is absolutely killer. By the way, where or who does your interior work? Is it all done in house, or do you farm any of it out? I'm curious about the upholstery and sticking in particular. Regardless...absolutely killer work! |

Some more updates:
The 'bird is going steady with lots of work cleaning up the underhood appearance, full exhaust system and door handle removal. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8469/8...b4362fbb_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8467/8...6e0357ff_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8075/8...8abe8888_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8493/8...9fe78217_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8325/8...2807c272_b.jpg |
And a couple more updates on a couple of the less 'pro-touring' based projects we have going:
Some fresh metalwork on the custom custom Cadillac we introduced earlier in the thread. The previous work done could only really be described as 'disposable': http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8211/8...0cf79f53_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8074/8...30f69cdc_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8510/8...72762d0e_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8219/8...5f44635a_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8354/8...9e94cc76_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8054/8...2bfd3045_b.jpg Work also begins on making the custom firewall: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8085/8...6d8de19c_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8471/8...3d72b5b9_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8238/8...67a8641c_b.jpg |

We are also doing a bit of a freshen up on Jim's '33 Tracknose.
Some of you may have seen it before: http://www.roadstershop.com/complete...mpleted-photos The plan is to do a tonneau style top, new windshield and a few more 'tweaks'. This means removal of the old windshield, posts, cowl recess and filling the tops of the doors. The original windshield look: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8235/8...9de42858_b.jpg A couple of rough ideas for the direction: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/8...03cb8a4e_b.jpg Removing and filling: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8327/8...9e458960_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8230/8...6dbdd703_b.jpg And mock up of the profile: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8360/8...7a719ac5_b.jpg Also some work on the steering arm. Thought I'd throw these in as the car isn't seen often without the nose and hood! http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8087/8...236ccaa9_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8098/8...34c2558b_b.jpg |
The Tracknose was at San Diego Wheels and Waves last year when I went down --- I crawled all over that car. Just super impressive!
I'm glad he is re-doing the windshield. The new design fits the style better. |

There was always a limit on what could be done to the car because of the convertible top and side windows needed to seal up to the windshield. After driving the car for a year, the owner said that he had only put the top up once and never rolled the windows up. So, he decided to get rid of them and finish the car off the way he had always envisioned it. Everything else on the car was built as a period inspired dry lakes race car. The new custom duval style windshield will give the car the look it deserved originally. |
what about the top ? is it going to fit the windsheld ?

Injected nailhead- so sweet. Incredible welds on those small parts. Great job with the packaging on that car. Small platforms like that take tons of planning and thought. Awesome.
|
As always beautiful work. I love the engine bay on all of these cars.

It's turning into a mega update!!
A few details on one of the Speed 33 projects: Along with our Speed33 chassis, we created the hood sides, hood, curved louvers, sectioned grille and and will be making few detail pieces on the interior and exterior like the dash and tail panel. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8463/8...ffa60362_b.jpg (Please try not to be distracted by the giant red thing in the background of the next pic ...) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8463/8...2676049a_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8510/8...27836ce8_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8355/8...bc341e72_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8377/8...be3a5751_b.jpg One of the dash concepts: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8474/8...2704ef8b_b.jpg ...to tie in with the tailpanel: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8095/8...24f50603_b.jpg |

That Bugatti chassis is a work of art! |
That Bugatti chassis is gorgeous! What was behind the decision to internally reinforce the rails?

amazing ! i do know of a caddy being built with a twin northstar engine like that .
|
If you guys didnt post up the pics ...I wouldnt beleive it .
|
HAHA, thought so, just checking.
I suppose if you don't have the room to increase overall frame rail height/width that internal gusseting has to add a lot of strength. |

Kenny is still learning to read... it's a "process". |

We dont really know a whole lot about it from a technical standpoint. We do know that it was one of two engines originally designed for offshore powerboat application. Essentially 2 LS motors joined together with custom block. It has been 'de-tuned' from the 2000hp range to a more mild 1000-ish Hp. I suppose if you are building something like a Bugatti, one V8 may be adequate but 2 V8's are better! |
Some more updates of the other projects we have going on (that we can show you :_paranoid)
Back on the '63 Cadillac and work continues on the 'deco' style Firewall. The owner is debating whether or not he wants the ribs chromed or painted with the firewall so we figured it might be a good option to machine them from brass as separate pieces. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8370/8...08ece853_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8234/8...a8762593_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8112/8...14178a1c_b.jpg Attention also turns to sorting out the structure of the front, grille and sheetmetal and improving what was there (i.e. a mess) Before: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8098/8...c3b30064_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/8...5e0f66ec_b.jpg Welded washers must be a 'kustom' thing...:lostmarbles: The fix: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8523/8...1bda959f_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8373/8...9353331e_b.jpg We will also be working our way through the the sheetmetal, improving where possible (see left fender) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8...5c38aafb_b.jpg |
The tracknose '33 is moving along with the updates.
We made the lower frame, sides and center mount for the rearview mirror: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8505/8...d6e3379c_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8517/8...e2834bda_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8108/8...f120664a_b.jpg Owner decided on the final glass shape (left) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8090/8...851ae9e3_b.jpg To the paint shop and currently in final assembly: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8229/8...52d59170_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8236/8...86bb9bcf_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8088/8...a7f9f544_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/8...a8396080_b.jpg |
That ride is going to be an attention getter!

The '64 Chevelle ragtop from a couple of pages back returned from stripping with some amazing 'texture'.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8387/8...674eceb5_b.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8388/8...16a5fc31_b.jpg Needless to say it's getting new everything. Lastly, some pics of a few vehicles we have squeezed in the shop as the start of builds and chassis projects:
A full build on a '69 Camaro - this one will be pretty cool. Lots of awesome builds, as usual!

Awesome work, I especially love the tail panel on the Chevelle. Very Nice.
