Hard when you have a rolled angle at the fender & it remains flat at the frame. I also was able to get the tranny cooler mounted. I was running out of options up front. So I opted to mount it behind the pass front tire. Should get plenty of air there. It's a stacked plate which cool extremely well, plus I went one size larger from their recommendation. They didn't think it would be problem with the location. I plan on using stainless mesh in the openings to protect the cooler from any debris. The inside of the wheel wells and panels will all by done in Raptor bedliner material. Now off the driver side which I already have a good jump on.

Um ya....I'm going to have to point cleco #'s 3 and 17 on the left side are off by 3 degress, not sure it will pass 200MPH.

WORK LOOKS AWESOME, STILL MY FAVORITE '55

Not to sure about that Skip, but thanks for the encouragement! Would have been nice to have had this car done a few years ago as planned, really would have ben different and on the edge - but oh well. Haven't seen to many 55's in this flavor. Most are Street Rod style builds, which are great as well. Pro Rides is doing a killer 55 that is going to be real aggressive. Looking forward to seeing it done!

Another Minor update

Yes...It's true another update. Who wudda thought? I think I have more updates in the past month than I have in the past couple years! LOL!

So I have now finished up the driver side panels and inner wheel well.

Before

After
http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/s...riverside.jpeg

http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/s...deoverall.jpeg

With both sides now complete time to take action in the rear area. Going to tie it all together and run pans from the rear of the tub to the bumper. Thinking it will be 3 pieces. This will take some time. I have it sketched out what I'm looking for. We'll see how it comes out in the fabrication process.

Been awhile since I have posted any pics but I have been making some progress in the rear area. I have tied the side rocker panels into the rear tubs and now continuing the rear treatment. The mufflers ended up hanging just a tad below the quarter panel. I had to extend the rear quarters about 2 3/4" in the rear but tapers off as it gets to the wheel well. Once this was done I was able to make the panels. I'm not sure how hot it will get back there but I plan on wrapping the mufflers and also cutting opening and using perforated metal for breathing. I'm pretty sure that will be enough. If anybody has any other ideas I'm open for suggestions. Last night I made the rear cover for the tank and looking at the lines for bead rolling. Have a crazy week this week but should be done next week.

Al Moreno 07-29-2014 04:29 PM

Brent that looks AWESOME! Always good to make progress.

Lenie 07-29-2014 04:48 PM

Brent, nice work. I tucked everything up tight also so I ceramic coated everything all the way back then header wrapped everything all the way back, covered my muffler tops with blankets and floorboards w/heat protection felts... alittle overboard but it looks good and works.. love your metal work and mad bead rolling skillzzzz...keep posting.:popcorn2:

Thanks for advice Lenie. Where did you get the blankets? I planned on coating everything as well. Just a little concerned with heat and being next to the frame and panels. I have plenty of room between the trunk floor and quarter panel. I know the mufflers are going to get hot but by the time it reaches the back I'm thinking it will not be that bad. Just want some reassurance. Maybe I'm over thinking it but I would rather be overkill than have an oh crap moment!! :) :)

Rick D 07-29-2014 05:39 PM

Looks great Brent!!! Any progress is good progress!! Nice metal work, what bead roller do you have?

fleetus macmullitz 07-29-2014 06:25 PM

Brent looks killer, craftsmanship is top notch!

I'd be a tad worried about trapping the heat, but you'll know once you get her fired up and driving.

Great job again, and post more often

Brent I agree with everyone else, that metal work looks great.I really like your idea on hiding everything:thumbsup:

Lenie 07-30-2014 01:01 AM

Brent, I found two used racing blankets similar to this https://www.google.com/search?q=NOS%...ml%3B600%3B434
on ebay but larger, I cut them to size, my father inlaw stitched them up then I used stainless zip ties to put them on top of the exhaust under the front floorboards, x pipe and mufflers.

Ricochet 07-30-2014 11:22 AM

Thanks for the feedback!! Just wanted to let people know it's not a totally dead project! If all goes well, which it should at this point, the plan is to have it in for paint by SEMA. Quit laughing Jody!

Rick, I'm using a Mitler Bros. I have never used one until now. Been a nice tool to learn to use.

Thanks Ron. I'm hoping it will not be an issue once I do everything as planned. Fingers crossed!

It's nothing special. Your's is :king:

Ricochet 08-18-2014 10:25 AM

Well, still been plugging away on it still. After weighing out my options on how to manage any potential heat issues around the muffler area I decided to use perforated metal. The rear area of the tire is open to draw air in and with these openings now I think crisis adverted!I still plan on coating & wrapping everything. This is just some added insurance. I also finished the rear pan as well.

Here is the pan

Now with openings

If you still have this car when you're 55, that would be ...uh, ironic?

So if my math serves me correct - I'm 10 years into this endeavour and I'm 45, this gives me 10 more years of cushion, right? At 20 years this could set a new record! When I put it like that it's depressing!
