I am amazed by the work everytime I look at this thread.

What is different about the dry carbon other than the "flat" look as compared to the "glossy" appearance?

Most Detailed ARP Bolts "IN THE INIVERSE"

5 Attachment(s)
OK as the "UNIVERSE" series continues, we didn't want to have the bolts feeling like they were the only one who didn’t get any love, LOL.

Just spent 20 plus hours doing every single bolt on the car.

I'm not sure how to embed this video. Maybe Jody can do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a99tCPA87tw

So here is the process we put them through. The bolt on the left has all the steps. First, it was sand blasted (this first step gives the nickel and satin finish). Secondly, nickel plated. Third, the head was drilled to give it a counter sunk look. By drilling the hole after nickel plating, it gives the bolt a two tone look as the hole goes back to a stainless finish. Finally the stainless hole was hand polished. Hope you followed all of that.

Attachment 53663

We redid the water vapor lines to include the rear ports also. The Trick Flow heads have the port open so we figure instead of plugging them, we would just do all four. The LS1 would have all for port vented from factory. Cylinder 7 would tend to run hot. The LS3 not so much, so only the front are vented. We figure,, what the heck, just extra piece of mind.

Here is what we came up with.

Attachment 53659

Attachment 53660

Trans and diff cooler lines almost done. Still need to adopt a i line thermostat and filter. There was a lot of head scratching to come up with the best solution on what fittings to use to make everything flow.

Attachment 53661

Attachment 53662

Stainless brake lines are almost done, thats on the to do for today.

Wow that's a lot of bolts! Very nice. I like the black hose with those ends.

Now you tell us?!?!, :warning: :computer:

LOL, XOXO too brother

Here is another nifty tool we wish we had when the project got started. It allows you to drill consistent counter sink holes as you can dial in the stopping point. This would have been of great help when we’re doing the aluminum bezels. We are going to use it to drill the holes for the windshield and rear glass.

Al --- I've had a couple of these countersinks for a long time.... they're fantastic!

Boeing used to run a huge surplus store in Seattle... you'd go down there and they'd have 55 gallon drums or big bins full of stuff like this ---- for $5 or $10!!

We have to thank Dan again for revising the final vission of G5.R. We loved the white but with so many of them in white, we felt we would need to do something a little different. Also remove the bars off the lower grille and recess it further in. Same thing with the upper and converted the fog light pods to brake ducts.

We hit a snag with the paint. Wont bore you with the details. Hopefully it will be there.

Here are a few pics of the detail work.

Justin figure out a way to installed the hood latches without having the cut out open the bottom side of the hood to access nuts that hold down the Aerocatch like you see in the picture below.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psje8gyqvz.jpg

Basically, its a billet bezel that has a tap for the screws to insert into, eliminating the need for nuts. The two studs are mounted to the bezel. they allow you to hold the bezel in place as you bolt the latch into the bezel. Once the bolts are installed, you remove the studs and install the two remaining bolts. The bezel sandwiches the catch without any nuts.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7wslfzrg.jpg

The only thing you'll see from the bottom of the hood is the 1/2" hole for the pin.

Six coats of clear to smooth the bottom before one last coat of satin clear.

Interior work:

Since the car is now a none AC/radio, the idea was to remove any GM hint that it ever came with these features.

Radio and AC face plate mods: The idea was to clean up the face plate and give it a floating effect.

To give it that effect, the face plate mounting points were cut off.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...pshxm7psuu.jpg

Next, all the AC and radio control were shaved

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psi2xpsujz.jpg

Glass the backside and did some rough sanding.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps83hj4uo6.jpg

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psfcg3vq6e.jpg

Prep the dash for the floating effect by cutting off the mounting points

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psknsgwytq.jpg

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psxgg6q9wz.jpg

To finish the floating effect, we cut off the side bars from the dash sub structure.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...pstcyxlarr.jpg

Also remove the pieces on the side of the trans tunnel. Now we will be able to finish off the flooring material all the way to the fire wall which I think will give it a much nicer look.

Replaced all the GM electronics. The gray box is Racepak's Smartwire which replaces all the fuse box and relays, plus it controls all the body functions. Its a really cool piece. It also cut down your wiring to about half. The red box is a mock up of Racepak’s G2X Data logger. The black box is Holley's Dominator EFI ECU.

Absolutely beautiful!!! I hope you make SEMA too, as i would love to see it in person....re the hood latches, on the 1/2 hole on the underside of the hood, you may need to clearance that a little more to compensate for the angle of the hood hinges (unless A- you are going lift off only or B- your angling the red male "receiving pin".
I had to on my 70, and now its getting redone in c/f as well...

Al Moreno 10-18-2015 09:31 AM

There is a lot more detail work then I have time to post right now. Hopefully we can get her done in time for SEMA.

I'm rooting for you guys! I hope it all comes together so you get it to SEMA. It deserves to be seen for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks, we hope the clock doesn't run out on us.

As far as the hood pins, there so much though that went into just something that would seem so simple.

All of the install we've seen, the pin is just mounted on the rad support were the factory rubber bump stop goes. The challenge is it positions the latch to close to the edge of the hood line (See picture below).

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7gh69mj9.png

We eliminated the factory hood strut and came up with our own design. The picture below shows were the factory hood strut mounts too. GM designed the same circle on the drivers side of the hood.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psootpg7ew.jpg

We used this location to position our hood pins to come through. This gives the illusion that the hood was design with these circles so that the pins would go through it.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...pshzihwwof.jpg

To accomplish this, Justin designed brackets in CAD positioning the pins to come out rough the original factory strut mounted location. (See back circle in picture below)

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psocrxzx8y.jpg

By doing it this way, the latch sit a couple of inches further back from the hood line making it more visually pleasing. The latch were also angled slightly to follow the cowl line instead of positioning them straight forward.

This is an example of the kind of attention to detail thats gone into this build!
