Looks great Aaron! Keep it up!

To say I am blown away is an understatement. The chassis looks incredible and the video was really cool to watch. I plan to watch it again when I get to the office.

As for the beer hold off a little longer as it may come out of you fairly quickly. Make sure you have a couple months with a solid stomach as you don’t want to end up dehydrating yourself.

ps I am glad your still alive which i already new as I follow you on facebook.

I'm still alive! Not at 100% operating level, but I'm doing better day by day. Been a rough 2018 for me with my health. I've been in the hospital 4 times since early January. One visit was 5 weeks...

I'm back home now for almost 3 weeks and feeling much better. I'm getting my strength back and dealing with some of the side effects. The worst was picking up a fungal infection in my lungs while my immune system was totally down. That'll take months to get rid of and of course, months of meds.

Enough about that! I guess I never posted a link to a walk around video of the mostly completed new chassis.

I did get to one event in last year to see how the new setup worked. Took the car down to Charlotte, NC for Good Guys and also hit up the DSE open house. So about the chassis. Whoa. Mega change in the way it drives! I went from having no rear grip to now having too much. Had to make some big adjustments from the "middle" position that I had it in. By the end of 7 runs, and getting faster each run, it was getting much easier to drive.

There's a few things I want to change, but overall I'm very satisfied with it. Here's a few pics of it together and on the ground.

Glad your feeling a bit better. Let me know what the Doctor says about beer and I can send you some. My nieces boyfriend owns a brewery here in Boise and they make some really great beer.

Sweet, because he said yes!

Thanks, not gonna be doing too much work just yet, but hope to get to an autox soon to get back in the groove.

Thanks Marty. I did end up having one and had no issues. I've been doing pretty good with the stomach problems. Only a few hours in the morning I get stomach cramps after I take most of my daily meds. It was awesome too.

Glad you see you back! Your car has been a great inspiration to my chevy II build. Love the walk around video cool idea, I saw you're running a returnless fuel setup, what pump and regulator are you running?

Well thanks Kevin, I'm honored to be an inspiration! I run a Ricks Tanks Restomod stamped tank with a ZL1 pump that is internally regulated. I've had no issues with not having a return style system. https://rickstanks.com/product/restomod/

I am currently running the tanks inc setup but after walbro pump issues I have been looking into the restomod tank as well. Are you running a fuel pump controller?

No controller, its internally regulated and returns back in the pump bucket to keep it full. I've not run on a road course yet, only autox so far no issues.

Sounds good thank you, I appreciate the information.

Aaron just found this thread and I must say nicely done Son and I have this thing, we have a 6.0 and some other parts for it but son is lacking on his funding so right now its maybe I gotta look into the rear frame mods to put some meats in it. If I ever get my bird running and into paint I'll have time for this, maybe my retirement car

Sure great to hear you're recovering well, Aaron. How are your check-ups coming along?

57hemicuda 06-06-2018 03:49 PM

That was my poor attempt at a joke, 4 times in the hospital, one for 5 weeks after a Taco Bell excursion. Had to make up a fictitious product name for fear of getting sued. LOL

Haha, I got ya. So why aren't you signed up for Motorstate?

57hemicuda 06-07-2018 06:12 PM

I'm on the waiting list, tried texting Scott, but apparently I'm not rating these days

Be nice to get the whole band together again.

Time for an update.
First, I've been feeling much better, I'd say I'm a solid 90% and driving the car again only makes me feel better. Good medicine.

Secondly, I've been to a few events this year now. I'm still amazed at the difference with the new chassis, brakes and the wider tires. I literally threw away all my notes from before because the car drives so differently (better different..).
I've been to 2 SCCA events and a test and tune day this past weekend. I had the chance to adjust the Watt's link thru it's full range to feel the difference. I ended up close to my designed nominal position. My rear bar is set on the mid position as well. The car feels very balanced to me on the higher speed courses I've been on (~70-76mph). I think I'm down to small adjustments now. I'm anxious to get it on a big track to see what happens. That'll be soon enough at Gingerman for the Motorstate Challenge this month.
The grip that it has is unreal; again, comparing it to what I had before. I'm gaining trust in its capabilities for sure, but have a way to go since it's such a different driving style than I'm used to.

Here's a few videos. The first is the rear 3-link suspension. I was hoping to see more of the Watt's link, but you can only see the top of the main bracket. I was happy to not see it moving or flexing at all though.

This one is from the Yooper Cup in the Upper Pennisula of MI two weeks ago. Crazy how much sidewall flex you get, and this was 37psi in the Rival S.

Another from the Yooper Cup.

And one from the test n tune event this past weekend in Oscoda

SSLance 07-02-2018 08:03 AM

Man, that is an AWESOME autocross site at Oscoda... How far from home for you is it?

Can't wait to drive the G-Velle on the concrete at Grissom in August. It looks like you are getting it very dialed in...

Oscoda is 2.5 hours away, not too bad. They all compare it to the concrete at nationals, except there are a few newer sections at Oscoda in the mix.

Looking good Aaron!! That Oscoda event looks like a blast!

TO HELL WITH THE CAR ------ That 90% stuff is what makes me happiest!!!

The car's okay too.... if that's what you're in to.

WSSix 07-03-2018 05:31 PM

Glad you're feeling better and that the car is doing well, too, Aaron!

rixtrix1 09-16-2018 03:50 PM

Met Lance (Barney)at AMP for a ride along this morning! I didn't realize that you shared YOUR car with him at the CAM East; just didn't click. Whatever, it's good to hear both you and the car are superb!!

Cheers.

SSLance 09-16-2018 04:20 PM

Thanks for coming out today Ric, glad you had fun and we got you a ride.

Actually it was at CAM East in Grissom that I co-drove the G-velle. Here is a video of my best and Aaron's best runs of the weekend.

While I'm here, been having some fun in the G-Velle as seen in Lance's video above lol. Also did Northeast Musclecar Challenge and Holley LS Fest since then. The car has been working great. I'm still figuring out how to drive it though. Can't believe how far along it's come in 5 years.

SSLance 09-16-2018 05:02 PM

How come you didn't post the "puddle picture" Aaron? :D

Took Ric for a ride in Barney today...another happy customer... :gitrdun:
