My desire has always been to show as much as I can. I have always laughed at the idea that you should only take pictures after having cleaned your workspace of clutter or only a start and finish shot. some people are afraid to show the process for the sake that they might be criticized or told that they are doing it wrong. If I post something and someone has a question as to why or says that there is a better way than bring it on! I love learning from those with better knowledge and always like to tweak the ways in which I do things so that I continue to build on my skill set. So if you ever want to know the why or the how just ask away!

I want to give you guys a little back ground information on my seats for the Duck. They are real 73 year old B25 bomber seats. The seats used in B25s during WWII were made out of 1/2'' plate steel to provide the only form of armor in those planes. They weren't ergonomic at all and were quite a pain to get in and out of. Once the war was over, they decided to install this seat design as a fix for the armored seats. Almost all of the B25s that still fly today have these exact seats. By doing research and hunting, I scored a set for the Duck.

Yup...I'll second that!

slimjim 01-31-2018 05:03 AM

Awesome find with those seats!
And I'm excited to see the ecoboost come alive, I'm such a fan of this relatively new motor, the aftermarket support is coming alive and soon we'll start seeing some impressive results from these small motors

Thanks, If some guy would hurry up and get the body done we all could see that ecoboost come alive...haha

I am excited to get it on the road. the car should be about a 5:1 weight to power ratio. If I put wings on it, she might fly

FaBrycation 02-01-2018 07:52 AM

Dakota Digital jumped on board Project Ruptured Duck and came through with building what I was told is the most extensive gauge system they have put together. I had to have as many read outs as possible to keep with the bomber theme and they really did a killer job. This is the maximum number of individual analog gauges that they can use in their new HDX systems. I also will have their TPMS system on it as well. Enjoy.

:captain:

I wanted a few more read outs but they said they are limited to 10 external gauges, haha.

however I do have 2 Real B25 gauges that I will be adapting!:excited:

WSSix 02-02-2018 04:49 PM

The incorporation of real B25 parts is an excellent idea. Great thinking, Brycen.

He's got to be able to calculate Ram Rise....

Little duck is going to be fast --- creating lots of friction..... LOL

Hahahaha! I was waiting for someone to notice that!

so the "nose temp" gauge is so that I can monitor the air temperature inside the Plexi-glass nose of the car. plexi-glass and high heat aren't friends and therefor I will be closely monitoring the interactions between the two so I can make sure I don't quickly ruin the plexi-glass. I will be building a system of nose flaps and fans into the hood sides that will open to allow air to quickly circulate and drop the temp in the nose to keep the plexi-glass comfortable.

so there you have it.

Work of art. Some people can stare at a painting in a museum for hours, I would like to see this in person so I can stare at this for hours.

Ha! Awesome. I’ll be honest I was secretly hoping for thermocouples stuck in an olfactory organ somewhere...

Is it not worth just venting the compartment permanently? I can’t imagine fan and complexity real estate is real plentiful in there.
Looks amazing, as always! Thanks for sharing.

you are right on limited real estate. however, I don't want any gaping holes that are permanently open as I think it would take away from the look on the nose. I also don't want to do it the easy way :welder: haha

shelteredV 02-06-2018 04:47 PM

I'm interested to see how you bend the plexi around your jig/buck because being a compound to a flat, it's gonna be a bitch I think. I have all confidence you'll pull it off, would love to see a video if you make one. Oh, and thanks for the invite, but I'm about as far away as you can get!

The process is called vacuum forming. So, I will build it out of metal first. A fiberglass mold will be made off of the metal panels, Then a vacuum box is made to hold the mold. Then the glass is sucked down into the mold using vacuum and hot air to make it maluable. Here is another piece I had made in the same way.
