Vince has shown (in a couple of threads) a outer wheel house mod to gain clearance. Unfortunately on my car when the quarter was replaced they pushed it in fairly tight at the lip. I could feel there wasn't much to be gained, but to be sure I drilled a pilot hole from the inside and only found 3/16".

Thanks Marty and Scott. I'll keep the info in mind if I ever get to that point. One of these days I'll have to do quarters. I figure that will be when I tub the car if I tub it.

Yeah, I've seen what Vince does and I want to do the mod.
On the passenger side it seems to have plenty of room, however on the driver side.....not so much. I suppose when they did the quarters, that hidden gap between the skin and and the outer wheelhouse was not a concern. The sheet metal work is very well done and I can't fault it for that. I'm considering knocking it loose at the lip and attempting to push it out, I only need to gain about 3/8". I'd like to replace the lip with 3/16" rod anyway. I'll wait though, my wheels and tires are on the way.....325/30/19 which is 26.7" tall and 13" wide. After the mini tub, I've got 14.75" width in the tub. Extra space can't hurt but I'm not sure I'll need it. Ideas? |
