Looks as streetable as a Prius.

At this rate, you'll need to tear it back down and re-lube it. hahahaha

I hope I have a torque curve like that with my stroker.

And replace those valve springs if the engine hasn't been turned over in a while. Ask me how I learned that lesson. :(

It is a punching bag... and well deserved eh.

Starts at 3900 because dyno operator likes to go easy on his dyno, that's all.

I'd be willing to bet this thing makes very respectable torque well below that 3900 number.

437 inches and a cam that's really not that rowdy. I am leaving a ton of power on the table with the heads on this thing due to mild cam and low rocker ratio (1.7) vs your average SB2.2 headed engine.

My apologies that you bought a used motor to start with and never touched it before installing. :slingshot:

In all seriousness, I can't recall the specs of yours, but mine has pretty mild spring pressures considering the parts list. I hope this serves me well in the interim and in the longer term. :)

Hey Chad.... because racecar here as well? :rules:

Wait... don't you have a Mast LS too? :D

First, I will take Hobaugh's LS7 anytime over my motor. That said, here is my dyno graph...

Note that I do have more torque at 3,600 rpm...

Both of those Mast curves look sweet. I am gonna go out on a limb and say all 3 of these engines are/will be a hoot to drive. :D

:Tomcat:

Actually it wasn't used, it had just been sitting for a while. I bought it from the original build shop. But I'd bet those springs had been in the same position for, oh, 5 years or so. And they were beehives, not exactly a high-pressure spring rate on those...

Go put a long wrench on that crank snout and turn it over once in a while.

Just messin..

Yeah it's not a bad idea. But what's another couple months when it's been sitting for oh, coming up on 2 years... sigh.

Dave,
You sure you gonna have enough power there? Jk Have you driven anything that radical, I can't quite remember the horse power numbers on your other cars. It's going to be a tough one to get all that power planted.

It'll do! There's a lot of power left in it if I want to get more radical with the cam actually. That's for later. Maybe.

While this will undoubtedly be a handful, it's not my first big power car. My previous Camaro with the procharged SBC that Jody built was around 750-800 crank hp (even though I didn't get to put much mileage on it before selling it). But I did daily drive a 700+ hp twin turbo Porsche for 2 years. It's a different car of course but power is power and you do get used to it and comfortable with it.

It's all relative.... I got bored pretty quick with the first motor in this car (550ish hp) and knew I would need more for my own satisfaction. To some people 450-500 hp is a ton. And that's not a bad thing.

And then there's people like SW.. where 800 hp feels like Weld's Miata.

Torque

I completely agree with Flash68, it's all what your used to, but I have to say that I've now had my 69 on the road now for a few days and there's no way in hell I'd want more power then this ... It's an absolute monster but I've got it just right for 'me', in the wrong hands though this kind of power can get very dangerous very quickly

Cheers
Steve

But report back in a year or so on that power level. :D

I rode Cr 500's back when they were not detuned

the Bird I often wish the Pantera had more

Ran against a 750hp Pantera on the track several
times and how he could pull me down the straights
was like nitrous

I vote more Power

Bob

GregWeld 06-09-2015 03:36 PM

This has nothing to do with Dave's car or the thread in general... but then come to think about it - not much in here actually does...

I vote more DRIVER capable of handling more power..... and a properly set up car that can actually take advantage of the power.

So many videos already on YouTube of the idiots crashing their brand new HellCats and Corvettes...

People learn to drive better with LOW POWER momentum cars... and most could probably put down better laps times with a Miata than they could/can in an 850hp "PT car". They'd actually drive the line carrying some speed, instead of linking a whole bunch of "oh sh!t" moments together. Thinking back to the dude that used to manage the El Toro track, that drove a PRIUS backwards and laid laps times better than most that came with their big time cars. LOL

So one minute you advocate going out and just having fun and it's not about being fast and lap times and transponders and bla bla bla..... and then now it's how to scale in and get to be a better driver by starting with a lower power car, hitting the lines, hitting the g-spot, I mean apex, and then adding power and reducing lap times and bla bla bla... (okay I added a little extra in there :D)

But still, I didn't know John Kerry (expert flip flopper) joined the forum!
