ok since it's nice outside, I decided to switch gears and work on some sheet metal to get ready for the new front sheet metal to arrive, also have the day off tomorrow to finish up some of this stuff. I also spent the weekend fixing stuff that was already broken on a car I have yet to drive other than around the block! Water pump replaced, check. Rear seal on the transmission replaced, check. Removed Driver side head to get the flange milled to get rid of massive header leak, Check. Exhaust all mocked up and built, check.
Here's some pics of the sheetmetal work today. I had to enlarge the inner fender openings to clear the corvette a arms with the new frame design. Tomorrow, I'll do the other side. http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...967F10034D.jpg http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...968B82D293.jpg http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...96904E3383.jpg http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...9694AA4A6D.jpg http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...9699415A08.jpg |
Optima Ulimate Street car challange qualifiers announced today! Please Please somebody sponsor me and help me get to the event at CMP with DSE! My car is so close to being ready to flog! As you guys all know it's completly home built in my massive racecar manufacturing facility (10x20) attached to my house. I just need some incentives to get it over the line (or convince my wife to let me work on it more) and a few parts. Here's the list off the top of my head that's on the car, it's not big because I made most of what I needed myself!
DSE, Yes there's DSE parts on my car AAW, great stuff! QA1, also great stuff Chevrolet, gotta hope for the big money! Ricks 1st Gen Camaro parts MSD Comp Cams Hawk Brake Pads Inline Tube Lokar products Speedway Motors Summit Racing Tires (TBD) can't run Hoosier A6's at OUSCC Wheels, Did I mention GM AKA Chevrolet? What I need still? Gauges, Tires, Lubricants, Brake pads, Roll cage, Safety Equipment (Harness, Fire equip ect..) My qualifications? I'm the VA State Auto X champ in ESP (in my WS6) Multiple champ in ESP in my local club, I'm running HPDE3 with NASA in my WS6. I've run VIR and RA, but not CMP yet. I'm a Mechanical Engineer and I built the car entirely by myself with no shop, time or money? Does that help? Ok, Enough of the grovoling (sp?) Here's what I did on monday my day off. Since I had the fender off, I decided to finish up the mocked up front downbars and get it ready for the new front sheet metal. http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...9685642CE0.jpg after some welding time and more grinding time this is where I ended up. http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...A31A1AC594.jpg I'm expecting a few parts I need while the car is up on the stands this week, then I'll put it on the ground and turn it around so I can do the other side to prepare for the new front sheet metal. If the Braille Battery disqualifies me, I'll add an Optima! |
It Ain't perfect, but it's good enough for now till I pull the front clip next winter. Cleaned up the frame too, gonna shoot some rattle can paint on it and call it a day. Also added some brake ducts in the frame that will use the frame rails for the ducting from the front end. Way more work than what it looks like in the pictures!

Hey, does Braille sell that mount or did you make it?
|
Coming along nicely! Good luck getting it ready for spring.
|
Braille sells it, they have a mount to fit each size of thier Batterys. So far this little batt has been good, lots of cold cranking on it and it's never waivered.
|
Cool, thanks......hope it lasts trying to crank 14:1.
|
Todays progress, a little rattle can paint goes a long way!
