I agree, great potential with this car. It is a HUGE project though. Much better than the Mustangs shown and if done right could be a great long term keeper.

BTW -- Personally -- I have a nice "shed" - lots of tools... lots of time... 1/8th of Charley's money... and looking at a project like this makes me want to hold my breath 'til I turn blue... But at the same time - it makes me want to pick up some square tubing and start bracing so I can cut her all apart and get started...

I was going to drop it off and work and blast all the rust areas on the body and then pay the body man to start on it. I was gonna have him sand down and prime the fenders, roof, doors and prime them since they are clean. Then patch the quarters up and paint it. I think it will be about $1000 with the employee discount and single stage paint. The floors are pretty expensive for these cars though, it's surprising.

If you get it look at it really close after you blast it. You may need/want to replace some things instead of patching. The real story will unfold after all of the paint is gone and you can see the bare metal. Do not underestimate the amount of work this will take. But with a good build plan you can do this and have a lot of fun. Take your time and do it right, you will be happier in the end knowing it is a solid build. And maybe think about trying some of the body work yourself and learning some new skills, you will also save some money on labor that way.

Okay - that's a good plan! Forgot that you work at a body shop... makes this stuff a WHOLE LOT EASIER!

Yeah -- the parts cost for Mopars is what I mentioned earlier! Twice what the same dang thing runs for a Chevy piece...

Meh, I don't think I am going to get it. Just going to need too much work plus I am sure it will still be there in a few months when it's time for another car. I found a 72 El Camino though that's in good shape. Personally it's not the greatest looking car but there pretty sweet. I like it because it's all there, runs drives and it has a RADIO. :woot: Also Chevelle part's are abundant right now. It would be a great car to enjoy for a month or two, throw a paint job on, lay some carpet in and re-sell for a profit then move on to something else. I will get some pics tomorrow when I look at it.

Your idea of buying a few here and there to flip is a good idea and a way to save up some money to get a car in better shape when you are ready to build one for yourself.

In the end - none of us are paying for it - nor working on it - nor enjoying the finished product either... But I am glad that you're THINKING about all of the choices... rather than just rushing out - and then going "WTF" did I do here!

Yeah lol, did that with the GTO. I still have nightmares of that thing. I had the same feeling with the 70 Mustang and this Challenger. It's like the smell of old interior just brings back horrible memories. I have yet to find a car that gave me the same feeling as the 80 Trans Am though, I was so happy when I got that car. I loved everything about it and would kill to have another one, not to mention I made alot of friends because of the car.

I guess I could just keep the El Camino and sell it when another car came up.

Oh ma gawd. I just found a 70 Roadrunner for $500(negotiable)!!! This is hands down my FAVORITE muscle car! I have dreamed of owning one of these. I am calling tomorrow and if it has a title I am picking it up.
