Hey Gae! Like everyone else on this site (except Weld), life sometimes gets in the way and I’m getting pinched. Swamped at work, kids/family/birthdays, honey-dos all take away from working on the car or trolling here @ Lat-G. :lateral:
OK, so here’s some updates. First off, body work never really moves as fast as anyone would like and in my case, multiply that by a factor of 2x. Since the last pics, the car has had interior paint, factory style honey coat on the inner quarters (which were replaced before I got the car and didn’t have any surface rust at all!) and is completely blocked and set up in the booth for a couple days of exterior color painting. Booth prep time took a few days and the painter needs 2-3 days straight to shoot the car, so it may have color before end of week or beginning of next. I’ll post interior color shots along w paint updates when it comes out of the booth.
I’ve been working on a number of other things – the engine I had agreed to buy turned out to be an LS2, not an LS3 (wtf seller? Good thing Trav was looking out for me, again!) so I passed on that. I’ve been on the hunt for an alternative and have a few things cooking; thinking hard about dry vs wet sump. I’ve also spent some time project planning w Cris about some fab/billet items (read: drooling over his cool parts). One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about projects are making friends with the Pros that get me where I want to be. Cris and friends are no exception. He’s got a great team surrounding his idea factory. On the suspension front, I decided to fab in an adjustable larger hollow sway bar, since the AME unit is a bit small/non adjustable. I debated going w a splined set up but I’m saving 13 lbs going this route and adjustments are a turn of the wrench instead of the expense of a diff splined bar. Thanks to AME Matt for that gem. I have a technical drawing and if anyone wants to see it, just PM me. I also got some advice from Steve Rupp on Pfadt bushings, racing ball joints and ZR1 hubs to reduce deflection under load. So I’m told, deflection will throw your camber alignment out by a degree or more. This video shows what can happen:
So that’s pretty much it for now. Front sub is on its way to powdercoat; I struggled with the colors and decided a muted chassis black (more glossy than satin, but not glossy!) on the sub, silver on the control arms and clear on the spindles. More go than show.
Oh, and Frank called and said my Forgelines should be ready to ship in a week or so. Not bad for a guy whose in the middle of a shop move!
