They say fondness grows with age, and as time marches on we tend reminisce and remember more of the good, while our memories of the bad dull over time. I can't wait to hear the legend of Payback two years from now.

I should have never admitted that I thought it was a really well built car...

Brutal.

Rob -- why are you not starting the dyno duns lower than 4500? After all I thought this was a torquey street motor. :_paranoid I wanna know what it does at 3000 or 3500.

D

What would I swap it out with a new Tunnelport manifold out of the Summit catalogue? I'm stoked on the power output and more importantly the big flat delivery curve.

Intake side isn't the problem. The exhaust ports on these motors suck by todays standards. A lot has been learned in 40+ years. We left a lot of hp on the table by not filling and reshaping the exhaust side. Blair came up with a cam and some other tricks to crutch the exhaust side.

Now that we've run this combo he's pretty sure there is some easy hp to be had with a different cam profile. For now I'm good with what it is putting out.

Jay will send me the dyno files and I'll post them up. We did some initial runs from 3-5k with each combo so we know what she does down there. Don't worry even at those rpms I have more torque than 200tw tires can handle.

So.... now let's talk money. :unibrow: What was the cost of the Ford Hp per dollar.

I'm just kidding you of course.... mature adults NEVER talk money! We just talk about "what we want"! You got what you wanted! :woot:

 Thanks GW.

Funny how everyone will spend endless amounts of $$ trying to make their car "unique" in every way but the motor. Tried and true speedway floater isn't bling enough or I need some HREs not Forglines. But under the hood cookie cutter is always good enough.

I like 60s cars. I don't want it to ride or stop like one but that RS chassis is pretty well hidden so it will do it's job somewhat unnoticed. I want mine to look like a 60s car and still have the soul of hp past. Nothing wrong with building a car just because of the body lines if that is what you want it just isn't my goal. I started my build based on the motor and the car. That's jsut what I like.

Looks good man. And I thought mine was a boat anchor. No wonder that Torino is so damn big.

This mission statement is why I really appreciate this build. Preservation of the muscle car era with the performance enhancement of today's engineering. Very impressive dyno chart, combined with the chassis this car is going to a real sleeper.

Motor sounded very linear... and just ran without a hiccup. NICE!

I've been around the dyno quite a bit (buddy owns one) and it's funny how some motors might make a nice piece of paper -- but when they're pulling I'm thinking... I'd be changing that or Ouch or something else. I like 'em when they just pull and the rpms climb.

Yep it looks like we have a runner. :D It wanted to keep pulling like an electric motor smooth, no sign of quit, but no reason to beat on it above 7200 when it was already falling off.

Yep a couple of Mad Scientist working on this one with me. The Hilllbilly from TN Blair Patrick and the Surfer from CA traveled to the Artic cold of MN and hid out in a converted chicken coop with a superflow 901 and the ColdMister. :D

I have to thank Jay Brown the owner of the "lab". :wow: Just a great guy with a passion for cars and Motors, FE motors. He ran his dyno for three days morning to night and even fed us a beer or two.

Yea Jay does know his FEs. But that hillbilly turning a wrench on the drivers side valve cover is the FE Magician.

Hangin out with those two didn't make me feel smart about these motors that's for sure.:(

Best quote in this thread! Now that I've driven it on the street I'm so glad I stayed true and stroked the 400 in my Firebird to 440! It may be "old school" but it's cool as hell, makes more power and torque than I'll ever "need" and I can still work on it myself. Heart and soul remains... no "cookie cutter" transplants here either. Congrats!

And your build plan is probably my favorite one on this forum. Wait, did I just say that? :D

I would have liked to see what the two dual plane TP intakes would have done. Both are very hard to come by and very expensive. Cool build. Next time I go to see the Mother-in-law in MN I may have to go out for coffee and end up a Jay's place.

INTMD8 11-12-2012 10:41 AM

Way too cool! My Marketing Director just bought a 1969 Ford Torino GT this last weekend. It's 100% stock and needs a full resto though. He wants to make it into a pro touring machine as well. Although yours will blow his out of the water!

Where in SoCal are yah? We are in Corona.

Your Marketing director will have more $$ to drive his. All mine is tied up in building it. You can't build a bad Torino:unibrow: Is his a 390 or a Windsor?

I'm in Orange. I was checking out some of your stock door panels at SEMA. Nice stuff. My buddy has some in his bug. I didn't see the 68/69 Fairlane Torino panels on display.:unibrow:

Unfortunately not! Wife, kids, multiple cars, he's just an average guy like all of us! That 68 Mustang in our booth at SEMA is his car also. The 66 Chevelle is mine. ;)

I believe his is the Windsor with an FMX Auto. He just picked the car up last weekend.

And no Torino door panels. I highly doubt that we would ever get into that market either. But maybe my Marketing Director comes up with something cool then can have another set made for you? We will have to see what happens there.

Ripped 11-19-2012 12:03 PM

Your car would be great with some TMI door panels. I have some slightly modified TMI upholstry on ny 88GT seats, and most people think the 67 came that way (that was the idea)

Maybe they could call them "extended" Mustang door panels.

Better put lots of padding for the corners!

Seen it at Pomona and SEMA it is very nice. I have also seen the Poteet Torino and it's similar interior treatment. The interior was one part of that car I was on board with.

I've though about it but probably not. The RS crew left room to go up and over the axle and likely that is what I will do.
